    Hi All,

I have been in the vehicle sales business for a number of years, however, due to the recent downturn in the market I have decided to would venture into the Vehicle Dismantling (new & used parts) side of things. I would be very grateful for any advice on obtaining a waste management licence and the costs involved in doing so..I was advised that there are consultants who specialise in the area of waste management, and i would be interested if anyone has used their services and could advise me in the costs & Fees involved in this..

    Thanks for your help...

I'd say that the first step would be to contact the EPA (www.epa.ie) about a waste licence. You should also talk to your local authority/council's environment department. They will be able to guide you in the right direction.

I'd say definitely talk to your county council / city council. A mate just got his permit this year - he's in business for years but it took endless meetings with council engineers to sort it out. Among other things he had to concrete a section of the yard and put in an oil trap with alarms on it (two oil traps, they found something wrong with the first one). He also has to get survey(s) done of the yard for levels etc.

Might be worth talking to another dismantler, not near you (so not in competition with you), who could bring you up to speed. Have you a good relationship with a dismantler from buying parts over the years ?

As said above, talk to your county council/city council environment section.

Thanks for the info and advice, Iv in in touch with the county council today and they brought me up to speed with things, they explained that I would need an Interceptor tank under a concrete section of the yard, the rest of the yard must be covered with hard material fill like gravel or somthing, I must have a shed with a 2 or 4 post lift and an oil drainer for each type of fluid that must be removed, Petrol / Diesel, Oil, Antifreeze / Coolant ect. and a section containing proper storage containers in an anti spil tray. alot of work but I should be ok, Still not sure about costs though!!.. I wouldnt be too friendly with any dismantlers in the south of Ireland, I would be with guys in the North but its a different system in there.. Thanks for the advise though, much appreciated..
