Preorder opinions for Modern Warfare 2?

I'll be itching to play MW2 when it's released (for my PS3) and rumour has it, already, there's going to be an availability crisis from release through xmas. So I'm going to preorder from somewhere, but where?

Shopto.net have a "release date or compensate" deal that applies to UK addresses but I'd hope that means no more than 2 days later for an Irish address. Flipside; £3 off my next order will be scant compensation if I'm left waiting weeks.
Does anyone online have a strong record of getting big releases out quickly?
Game in Liffey Valley would be my nearest B&M store. I haven't checked with them but I figure there could be a ~€20 premium for buying offline, but at least I can just rock up there and put my hand out rather than waiting for the postie, wondering if today's the day.

    What to do?
    Opinions please.

I would personaly pre-order in a store as opposed to trusting online stores... As soon as you can put your name on the waiting list: DO IT!

    That's what I'll be doing anyway! ;)

I pre-ordered mine on PC format, in Game Liffey Valley. Free poster when you pre-order too, received when you buy the game.

Taking orders for a game so early is madness, but meh, well worth it.

P.S. Don't know how anyone can play FPS's on console, but each to their own.

I agree but let's not go down that road again! ;)

Xtravision are also taking pre-orders. This is going to be on steam though isnt it ? would it make more sense to get it that way - ie no waiting for shipping.

Does anyone know if the game will be longer/shorter than Modern Warfare 1 ?

All the high street retailers will take preorders but there's really no need. There'll be plenty of stock available on launch day.

I've heard the single player campaign is going to be in or around the same length as COD 4. Suppose we should really start calling it Modern Warfare now instead.

I remember pre-ordering Halo 2 just to be sure I'd get but its generally a scam by the shops to tie you down early with the "fear" that you will be left with no game for weeks while all your mates are playing it. My experience with Halo and GTA is that on launch day there are plenty of copies to be had.

Games are like movies these days - a huge premier and launch event to max the hype and thats when they sell most of the copies in the first few days and thats why they will ensure there are plenty of copies available. The last thing they want is for you to be waiting weeks to get the game as then there is a risk that you will go off and spend your money on some other game.

My advice is to check out HMV - they are often €20 cheaper for games and usually have plenty of stock.
