Myself and the OH were looking at going to Miami for a week in January, any recommendations of things to do in the city?

Spend 2-3 days in Miami and then head to Key West - you'll love it!!!!!

Dont miss South Beach. Stay in a hotel on Ocean Drive if you can. You have to see the posing to believe it. The place is excellent though.

Take a tour to the everglades too.

You can get a boat tour around star island as well. Its a nice day out.

And then like the precious poster says. Key west.

    As above plus:

Drive out to the Shark Valley visitor centre in the Everglades and get very very close to the Alligators (if you are stupid/brave enough within inches) and see some amazing animals in their habitat.

After that you can get the airboat ride on the way back to Miami on US41- Tamiami Trail)

Check out the Holocaust memorial, (a short drive / walk from south beach very close to Macys) it is an amazing memorial, take the time to go around. Not fun or enjoyable but a place to visit and remember what happened.

South Pointe park about 6/7 blocks from ocean drive is a great place to walk especially on Sunday/Saturday evening when the cruise ships are leaving around 3-5 pm, they pass very close to land.

Vizcaya House is a must see, the former James Deering home and gardens are step back in time to see how the rich lived in the early 1900's, allow plenty of time to view the gardens and house.

There are plenty of boat tours of Miami /Port of Miami, most leave from the Bayside Marketplace there a is a multi story car park adjacent. They are normal sedate boat cruise but if you feel like it you can take the Thriller which is a replica power boat. All depart from the same area.

Don't skimp on the rental car, get an SUV Ford Explorer or similar, the size of the car will make driving much more relaxing when driving around, get sat nav when renting or bring one with you or buy one when you get there.

Spent a month here last year with work, my top things to do would be (in no particular order):

    1. Everglades

    2. Day hanging out on South Beach

    3. Viscaya Museum

    4. Shopping in the Sawgrass Mills mall, by far the best in Miami

    5. Little Havana

    6. Overnight trip to Key West

    7. Miami Metro-zoo

    8. Eating out in a Brazilian restaurant, would recommend the one at the Sawgrass Mills mall, can't remember the name.

    9. Overnight trip to Disneyland, think it's about a 4 hour drive.

    You'll love it :)
