    Hi Amy,

Not sure if the shop in City Square has relocated or not, but I was at a carboot sale near the Ferrybar 2 or 3 weeks ago and there was a man there that had signed pictures. I think they were mostly football, but there was a few others aswell. I don't think they were that pricey either. Whether they are genuine or not though is another thing but they might be worth a look.

    Hi OP,
Got this info from a friend of mine.

The shop is closed in waterford but business still exists...

    Web site is http://stars-icons.com/

If you are looking for something that is not on the site contact chris (the owner) he will do his best to source it for you.

As far as I know, he is at the Indoor Market in Tramore, opposite the church car park, where Londis / Bia Maith used to be. It is open Friday's and Saturdays from 10am until 5pm,

    See here for more info.

The company you are on about, afaik, are not based in the Tramore Indoor Market. Baron has given the correct info above with regards to that particular business. :)

Do you know if the pics are framed like the ones that where in the shop in city square?

    Sully,
I'm afraid that you will have to stand corrected on the fact that the chap does operate from Tramore Indoor Market at the weekends.

    Hi Amy,
I dont really know the company, I just knew someone whose sister owned the shop beside him in City Square when he was there, so I would be only guessing if I gave you an answer.

If you go the the website I gave you and click on "Contact Us" you can send a message and get the answers to the questions (does he operate at Indoor Market in Tramore? Are Pictures Framed just like they were in the shop in City Sqaure? etc etc) straight from the horses mouth :D

My friend told me the owner is fairly sound and would be only too glad to help you out and answer your questions.

    Have a nice day :D

    Hi all

I'm Chris from Stars and Icons - I was directed here by someone who read the thread.

I have the website which somebody already mentioned www.stars-icons.com and do the stall in Tramore on Friday and Saturday in the indoor market opposite the Church car park and the occasional memorabilia fair. The market's open from 10-5 and is worth dropping by for just for the food. My website only has around a quarter of my stock so you're better off giving me a call or dropping me an email if you're looking for something. I don't know where Ferrybar is so I imagine that I haven't got a stall there!

I only know of two other genuine Irish autograph dealers - one is called Irish3rdeye or something like that and the other is Keith McGlyn of Sporting Legends. Outside of that I would caution against buying from anyone who wasn't either an Aftal Approved Dealer, a UACC Registered Dealer or connected to Iconic Signings or the Exclusive Private Signings groups. There are a few good dealers on ebay but there are a lot more that aren't so approach ebay with extreme caution as every fake dealer has a good and convincing story to tell. If you don't want to go through me then the dealers on www.aftal.org.uk would be a better place to look than ebay as you know you're getting the real deal and won't be plagued with doubts about what you've bought.

    Hope this helps.

    Chris

    On what grounds???

    On the grounds that they
sell the memorbilia Framed Pictures off various people and teams
    which is the original question.

I dont see anyone specifying if they should be real or fake!
I only know of two other genuine Irish autograph dealers

Therefore that doesnt mean the guy in the ferry bar is fake, is this a moderator making unproven comments about a trader??????????

Please point me in the direction of the post where I called the trader a fake.

I am still curious though, if the trader was selling fakes - would you still think its worth checking out?

    It's implied Sully...

You must be a purist Sully, you'd be surprised how many "official" products for sale in shops are fake, that's the reality of making a profit in a modern store. If you buy a signed picture of say, Robbie Keane, as a gift, is the recipient likely to phone him to verify he actually signed it? Most people don’t know or care about a product's authenticity....as long as the price is right and the quality is decent.

Hence I gave the OP an option to find such items. Just because it's not in your beloved Tramore or on your Tramore website doesnt mean it's not an option.

Also just because an item has tags of authenticity still doesnt guarantee that the tag itself is not a fake!

In your opinion. Its a valid point. If (we don't know) whats being sold are fakes, and maybe the OP doesn't want fakes, should the OP go there?

So are you now implying that star icons are selling fakes? That what they claim as "official products" are not actually genuine but fake?

Hence I gave the OP an option to find such items. Just because it's not in your beloved Tramore or on your Tramore website doesnt mean it's not an option.

Your twisting what I said. star-icons is offering genuine products. Some people prefer genuine. A car boot sale may not be genuine so the question posed to you was; If there fake should the OP buy it anyway? I was just curious. Personally, id prefer to buy genuine. I think your answer is that you don't care either way. That's all I wanted to know, I don't see why your being defensive (unless your running the sale :P).

Its got nothing to do with Tramore.. No idea why your throwing that comment in there. Seems completely irrelevant to the argument.
Also just because an item has tags of authenticity still doesnt guarantee that the tag itself is not a fake!

See one of my earlier comments about implying. :)

Absolutely not, I think it's great that such a store exists in our region and fair play to the owner for securing one of only 3 Irish affiliations.

    Unless your running the sale

I went to the ferry bar once and saw the stand and thought it might help the OP if it was mentioned. Obviously the comment wasn't the right one on www.sully.ie (the other name for Boards)

See my point? I tried to ask a simple question and was told I was suggesting the sale was fakes, which isn't what I was implying at all. You passed a common also which could be implied as star icons being fake when you didn't mean that. ;)

Not right? I never removed the comment. I just asked was it a good suggestion (as did someone else) IF they were fakes. It was a simple question :)

Any suggestions (within reason of course :P) are welcome on Boards. :)

Had a wander down to the car boot at Ferrybar today and the chap that does pictures is Bill who's a friend of mine and a very nice bloke although he was on holiday this week. He doesn't do autographs although some of his prints have printed autographs on them. He does other bits of football stuff as well as the pictures and he's very cheap for what he does so gets the thumbs up :)

You made some very valid points. There are plenty of sports shops who sell fake products. A case in point being when Liverpool won the European Cup and did a limited run of shirts which sold out within a week or two. Plenty of sports shops were still re-stocking them for months after they sold out though

Back on to autographs, with most people there are always ways of proving authenticity within the most reasonable of doubts. Most people have several common traits which crop up in all of their autographs which are never all picked up - even by the best of fakers - whether these be the slant of a letter, the size of letter in relation to each other, common loops etc. Al Pacino being the most obvious answer as he's very variable in what he signs! Add to the autograph's distinctive characteristics the history of where you bought something from and that will give usually give a thumbs up or down to whether it's real or not. As one of the Directors of Aftal and the UACC always says, assume all autographs are fake and then look for things which show that they're real. The last thing you should do is assume something is real and look for reasons why it might not be as every fake autograph has a convincing story to go with it.

Obviously the best way of ensuring authenticity is to collect it yourself. Failing that if you're going to buy I'd always use the guidelines I was talking about earlier as buying autographs is an absolute minefield.

If you need any proof just do an ebay search of "signed Wayne Rooney"

It's a known fact that he very rarely signs anything and the search I just did returned 76 results of which I wouldn't personally give a second glance to any more than four of five of them. All the obviously crap autographs still come with a coa though

Must be quite frustrating Chris, selling legit items is often more difficult to do...even at the right price

It's difficult to sell legit items on mass because people just haven't got money to spend on what are basically luxury goods and people will often look for the cheapest thing on offer and take a chance - hence the plentiful crap on ebay.

Couple that with the fact that dealers either have to pay the person who signs it, have to pay someone to stand around for a day on the off chance that they'll collect enough that it'll be worthwhile or you have to account for your own hours - which may be many just trying to get one person to sign for you. The point being that real autographs of stars cost money and as we all know most of us haven't got much at the minute

At least I can pilfer a few incomings. Aretha Franklin the latest :D

They're very different as in that I'm an autograph dealer and they don't sell them ;). They sell the same stuff as Bill does - who has the stall we were talking about and Funk it. I think they print t-shirts too - so all of you people out there who want a t-shirt printed this is the place. If I had a fiver for everytime somebody asked for a t-shirt to be printed... :)

A quick update for anyone who went to the market in Tramore. The Tramore market closed down last week but a new market will be opening tomorrow with most of the same traders. It will be in the old carpet warehouse next door to the Carry Out off license and will be on Fridays and Saturdays as before.
