Apologies if this has been done before!

I'm a bit of a rock chick with tomboy tendancies, who wears her heart on her sleeve :p

Tomboy. I'm not hugely girly, but I appreciate beautiful things. Would rather go to a pub for a pint than out to the club for a dance, and am perfectly happy going out in sneakers. Do wear my heart/emotions on my sleeve though, and am quite loyal and compassionate.. and can be oddly sweet when the mood strikes me.

Well op how do you define what a lady is?

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Regional Abroad Moderators Posts: 6,485 Mod ✭✭✭✭silvervixen84

I suppose i could have said "what kind of woman" are you, but i was just going with Lady as its "The Ladies' Lounge".

If i offer a definition of a "lady" i effectively kill off my own thread!

Hmmm let's see.....I'm half tomyboy half girlie girl-can be both a lad's girl and a girl's girl easily, a complete softie that cries at everything, extremley easy going, a complete piss taker (but can take as well as I give), very black and white - if I don't like someone I can't be arsed and that's it, quite shy (have had people think I'm a snob when I'm just shy with people I don't know that well), independant - like my own company but not too much!, very clumsy, childish (in a good way I think!) always up for a laugh, devious-in a rogue kind of way, not in an evil sense, really happy go lucky and just generally sail through life not letting much bother me. That said I haven't had too many bad days thrown at me up until now (touch wood!) so I'm lucky. Just an easy, breezy hippy at heart.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 43,045 ✭✭✭✭Nevyn

tbh it depends on my mood and what I fancy doing and the circumstances I find myself in.
I can be at home and behave myself appropriately no matter where I end up.
    Life's more fun that way.

Clare Bear, alot of how you described yourself is like me too, except for the hippy breezy stuff, unfortunately i let things get to me sometimes, working on that though!

I think your sig (even if you think its ironic) gives away your real problems with women.

I'm abrasive, often tend to give offence where none is intended due to a tendancy to bluntness. I prefer the friendship of women to men, and prefer men to be more of the old fashioned 'real men' type. I've very little tolerance for stupid people. I've a serious nature, but I'm prone to joking just to hide it.

I look all girly and nice, I'm a wolf in sheeps clothing.

Sometimes I'm a girlygirl. Sometimes I'm a hardhearted anti-romance cynic. Sometimes I'm silly, and sometimes I have a tongue sharper than a razor that'll crack everyone up. Sometimes I'm like an aul wan, and sometimes I'm "rotten" as my bf puts it. Sometimes I'll chatter and sometimes I'll go ages without talking.
Always blunt and honest in a friendly way.

    Great thread.

After 24 years of trying to define myself, I've come to realise that we're all utterly undefinable.

I've got a really 'girly' friend who's football mad, a tomboy friend who's obsessed with shoes, a cynical friend who has just been swept off her feet and has moved to Amsterdam to be with the man she met a month ago...and I too am one giant contradiction.

I'm a total loner who'd be lost without her family and friends, a ridiculously laidback kid with a vicious temper, a shy person who loves being the centre of attention, a city slicker who'd go mad without those isolated walks in the countryside; I'm insanely independent and equally needy; an outdoors girl who loves spending the day in bed reading, a Galway hippie who loves talking makeup and clothes. Some days I'll spend an hour getting ready to leave the house, other days I'm happy in tracksuit bottoms and without a scrape of makeup. I have no idea what kind of lady I am. But I'm happy not knowing! :)

    A saucy lady, that's who.

Hmmmm....well, in terms of appearance and that, I guess I wear kind of skater clothes usually, but with a girly touch...kinda... I'm not arsed with makeup (except eye makeup i guess), it takes me 10 minutes to get ready in the morning. I'm a bit of an artsy, musicy type person. Don't mind getting a bit muddy.
I'm reaaaaly shy when I first meet people. I make a lot of politically incorrect jokes, and some people think i've more of a "guy's sense of humour", whatever they mean by that. I'm very laid back about most stuff.

I was accused of being a lady recently. *beams*
I think I might have been basking in the reflected glow of my lovely and ladylike friends though.
    Still it counts!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,691 ✭✭✭Lia_lia

I don't know. I'm not a girly girl. Most of my friends are guys. I just seem to get on better with them. I have more of a guyish sense of humour I think. And my girl-friend's are not really girly girls, but not tomboyish either. I wear skirts and dresses most of the time but not really in a girly way. Hmm, not making much sense here!

Complete and utter tomboy, and I wouldn't have it any other way. :)

    apparently, i'm sassy.
    apparently, i'm meek.
    apparently, i'm funny.
    apparently, i'm serious.
    apparently, i'm a mature woman.
apparently, i'm a childish little girl.

apparently i'm a bundle of contradictions if you go by what other people say about me to my face (who knows what's said behind my back lol).
All i know for sure is i'm honest, i try to do the right thing and try to see the good in everyone (its the only way i've been able to work in my field) and i have a dirty sense humour. i like "boyish" things like video games, horror/action movies, anime and my job involves working with problematic teenage boys.
at work i'm a tom boy. at home i'm a girly girl.

Good question. Think of myself as a girlie girl at heart but a serious girlie girl. I'm quite career oriented and am much tougher at work, probably come across as quite harsh but it's a bit of an act, necessary to be taken seriously and respected. I'm quite sensitive on the whole and think I'm sensitive to others as well. I'm very loyal and like to think that I put family and friends before all else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,772 ✭✭✭Jwacqui

So many different ways to describe myself.
Shy, compassionate, honest, loyal, loving, thoughtfull, really in touch with her emotions, girly it goes on! Would like to think im funny but its mainly me laughing at my own jokes :p
I can be very open when it comes to things say for example in the bedroom but in the same breath I can be very shy and have been called a prude  I think this is maybe as I don't join in with the overtly sexual talk and details with people.
I have been described as an idealist :o as I want the fairytale and really beleive in true love and soulmates and can't wait for it all to come along.
Recently a guy I was seeing described me as very naive but in an endearing way! His words! The same guy also described me as quaint when we were staying overnight in a hotel and when he came out of the shower found me folding his clothes?? Duno what he meant by that!
I take things very much to heart and fall quite easily and tend to get my heart broken..
I also tend to be described on druken nights out with mates that are lads as a total lady, a diamond, so nice and get loads of kisses on the cheeks! Think this just might be drunk talk though...

I could also talk forever!! Sorry for the really long post, it just got me thinking!

I'll start out with a brief illustrative story:
A few weeks ago, I lent a friend a pair of headphones and apologized for the state of the headphones, describing them as "ghetto," and my friend snorted and said, "Oh please. Like you would own anything ghetto."

I'm an artsy girl. I rarely wear jeans - usually dresses and skirts, often with a bold pattern. I like literature, am a classically trained vocalist, do collage work and write children's books. I don't drink much, but when I do, I only drink wine and cocktails. I like going to museums and traveling to different countries and around my own country. I enjoy clothes, but not shopping. I look for pieces that are unique and bold but also elegant and feminine. I love all things vintage and retro, especially cars, buildings, and appliances. I'm an introvert and enjoy doing things on my own. I traveled Australia and backpacked through Central Europe on my own.
    And yeah... that's me.

I'm not a very girly girl - never was really. Live in jeans. Wear minimum makeup, barely straighten my hair though it's washed every day.

I'm kind, considerate, funny though I have a bit of a short fuse and I don't tolerate fools for more than 10 seconds.

I'm fiercely loyal and protective of my loved ones.

I'm not much of a "lady" but I have manners when I need to and swear like a trooper when pushed to my limits.

Prefer a night in a decent pub than parading myself around clubs.

    I'm a happy wee thing.

I dunno, if you asked a group of men what kind of guys they were you'd find responses as varied as this. In fact if you asked a bunch of random people what kind of person they are you'd probably find them like "all the colours in nature , all the shapes ever changing in all the clowds we have ever looked at ,and all the sounds Mozart gifted to the people of the world" I don't think being a woman has anything to do with it really :)

it's a running joke with my partner and i that im just a boy in a girl's body. particularly since i shaved my head. just about all my mates are dudes, most of my interests and hobbies are in male-dominated areas, eg, surfing, skating, rock climbing, metal/punk gigs.

my clothes, bar my bra, are just about all "men's clothes" (and particulaly scruffy ones at that). but tbh, im quite girly in that im quite talkative, emotional, work in a female dominated industry/sector (social care). so i duno. i definitely wouldnt identify as a 'lady'.
