    Nooooooooo!!!!!!!

    Don't get that!
    1.66ghz celeron processor ugh!

Check out some of these from amazon and ebuyer.
The customers seem to like this acer and my mate got one of them in the same range a few weeks ago and they also look pretty sweet!

i fink ebuyer however seem to offer the best spec for price out of any of the retailers

    take your pick...

Don't spend more than E500 though it'd be pointless for what you'll be using it for

Head over to the Dell Outlet, 58 euro off all Inspirons at the moment - you can't really go wrong as the laptops are mostly cancelled orders and come with a full warranty. (linky)

Depending on your budget is, it is probably worth checking out Acer.

They have a good range of prices that might be able to suit you. There is a Euro button on the top right to give you an idea of the prices. They ship to Ireland too.

    Hope this helps.

That site, while I'm sure legit looks VERY similar to www.laptopsdirect.ie , which many people have had less than satifactory experiences with. Still though if the price is right....

They are both owned by BuyItDirect.

For your own sake DON'T buy an Acer from acerdirect/laptopsdirect or any associated company! Had one delivered on Thursday last week. I paid extra for a predelivery inspection to check for dead pixels etc. Turned on the laptop for the first time and got the 'Windows did not shut down properly' screen. The laptop then crashed and died. The laptop also was not as specified on the website.

Refund was meant to be authorised last Friday but I'm still waiting:mad: I'm going to buy a Dell Studio 15 when(if!) the refund comes through.

I bought this yesterday with 2.1GHz from Click.ie for €399. Not as cheap as buying online but I got it straight away from the shop and they threw in a free laptop bag aswell.

    Laptop specs:.

    # Operating system: Genuine Windows Vista® Home Basic with Service Pack 1 (32-bit)
    # Processor: AMD Sempron? Processor for Notebook PCs SI-42 - 2.10 GHz, Level 2 cache 512 KB
    # Memory: 1024 MB (1 x 1024 MB), Supports up to 4 GB DDR2 memory
    # Storage: 160 GB SATA Hard Disk Drive 5400 rpm, up to 9 GB partition for system recovery
    # Optical: Lightscribe Super Multi DVD Writer (+/-R +/-RW) with Double Layer support
    # Create silkscreen-quality disc labels direct from your PC with LightScribe: Just burn, flip, burn.
    # 5-in-1 integrated Digital Media Reader for Secure Digital cards, MultiMedia cards, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, or xD Picture cards
    # Communication: High speed 56K modem
    # Ethernet: 10/100BT integrated network interface
    # 802.11b/g WLAN
    # Webcam with integrated microphone
    # Display: 15.6" Diagonal High Definition HP Brightview Display
    # Resolution: 1366 x 768
    # Video: NVIDIA GeForce 8200M, Up to 319 MB Total Available Graphics Memory
    # Weight: 2.96Kg (3.7Kg packed)

It's not going to light the world on fire but for basic internet browsing, online poker, and FM2009 i find it to be working extremely well. Its a really nice unit. Maybe its just me being used to DELL, but I'm really loving the screen quality.

there is some good deals there but they all seem to come with windows vista, id much prefer if there was an xp option

Would vista be to much of a drag since they are not the highest spec laptops

Should this thread close as it started ages ago and the answers will be out of date?
