dont know if this is correct thread pls move if not
i just rang sky to reduce the package i have

have the full package costing 70 a month
    finances a bit tight
so decided to get rid of sports and movies
    down to 30.50 a month
anyway rang through got a guy in cork half asleep he sounded but said i wanted to reduce to the basic packages
he asked if it was for financial or just didnt watch
i said financial so he offer it to me for 20%less for 6 months
as i said money is tight so i just got rid of sports and movies
so it might be worth a try to reduce down and get the full package less 20% for 6 moths

    Hi Stedeb,

Fair play to you for sharing this with the forum, if I was a sky subscriber I would try it.

As for Sky offering a measlly 8 euro discount for a loyal subscriber to the top package in financial difficulty

i downgraded 2 weeks ago, to save a few quid and wasnt offered that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,954 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

I was offered the same but decided to cancel anyway.
The Cork staff are shockingly bad compared to the Scottish call centre.
The guy in Cork seemed to believe it was a chore to deal with me ,then he got angry when I refused his deals and then he started telling me lies that I wouldnt be able to pick up BBC if I cancelled.

haha that's pretty bad alright. when i phoned to cancel sports last week and she made me the offer i asked for details and then said thanks but no thanks...and the sigh she gave me down the phone nearly burst my earhole...can only think they are on commission for every customer package they keep.

Yes they are absolutely brutal .
I'd bet its outsourced ,the staff dont give a damn and have no manners.
Edit ,seems it is indeed outsourced to a company called Abtran.
In over 10 years of dealing with Sky in Scotland the staff were always friendly, accommodating, patient and nice.
Nothing but Pigs in that Cork office.:)

So why don't you try ringing Scotland then? Avoid Cork completely?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 299 ✭✭7mountpleasant

They are run by a crowd in cork called abtran, desperate service, rang to get rid of music and take up the movies and sports half price for 3 months offer, first got through to an indian who's english i genuinely believe extends to welcome to sky+ the home of hd, (this was repeated 6 times throughout call) guy managed to remove the music (after trying to spend 5 mins trying to upgrade me to skyhd despite my repeated statements that i don't have a hdtv) then said he would transfer me to ireland to get the sports and movies package , when i duly got through to ireland i was told that they could not put the offer on because
    a) I had just changed my package and had to wait a month to change it again
    b) said offer did not exist
Queue another 10 mins of a very disinterested person in cork basically calling me a liar. Finally had to get a supervisor who simply said , ya fine thats done and hung up! At least i got the package but was highly irritated for days.

I'm often tempted to record the conversation and say 'This call may be recorded for training purposes' when they answer, I bet that would keep them on their toes! :D:rolleyes:

When reducing a package can Sky sell you just Sky Sports 1 and if so does anyone know the price of same?

No they won't, you need at least one pack.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3 resourcesys

Sorry, I meant that I would keep the basic package (Variety Pack + News) and ask then rather than get the Sky Sports pack just get Sky Sports 1. I am Not sure if this is possible?

I hang up on Sky if I get the Cork staff. Not worth the hassle.

Every time I ring the 0818 number I get through to the Cork office,is there any way to get through to the UK office ?
Perhaps I'll dial the UK number next time.

Watty, I got Sky sports one, music and variety and knowledge pack for €45.. up to all sports 1,2,3 then for €56 a month

So I'll stay on that until the Lions tour is over and downgrade again to my other packs.

Thinking of upgrading to Sky+HD, and just looking at the deals it looks like if I canx my current multi room and get it back again I will get free installation. Or do i need to get it installed I have sky+ and multi-room already surely if I unplug the sky+ box and install it in the kids room, and plug the new HD box in and away I go ?????? Yes? No??

I'm just off the phone with that Cork office and to tell you the truth I'm boiling with annoyance.
The one on the phone basically shouted over me, wouldn't listen to what I was saying then without a word put me on hold for five minutes then came back and said a supervisor was too busy to talk to me but would take my number and call me back - 'but it won't make any difference, she'll tell you the same as I did'.
Oh, and 'I'll read you the T&Cs if that's what you want' was another kind offer from the ignorant cow seeing as I'm paying for a premium phone call.

That's twice I've made the mistake of trying to deal with the useless shower in Cork - they are brutal & ignorant.
You can't do this, you can't do that - eh, yes I can, I have and it's working, fully explained to the professional Sky CS in Scotland.

This was an HD upgrade on one account - just phoning for an install date after registering.

It was the ignorance of not letting me speak and then when I could get a word in, talking over me.

he started telling me lies that I wouldnt be able to pick up BBC if I cancelled.

You should have demanded a supervisor when he said that.

Don't let the S.W.A.T. team at the Cork sky office know that - they'll have you in Guantanamo before ya can say 'shít customer service' ;)

Yep, it is very much a DIY job. You'd just have to ring them up to pair your card with the new HD box.

Unfortunately though, I imagine they would be rather anal about the installation aspect.
You could always do what the OP suggested mind you, and bluff your way through cancelling altogether/cancelling parts of your package and see what they offer you.

BTW, getting back to the OP, would I be right in thinking, Disney is still locked in with the regular SKY movies package?

No respect for the customer at all.

When I cancelled I got through to Cork and I spoke with a lovely girl. It is unfair to tarnish them all because of a few arseholes.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,492 ✭✭✭Sir Oxman

Well, once I'll let them away with but not twice.

Complaint letter winging it's way to Sky (after an attempt to finish my business with Sky in Scotland who apologised that they couldn't deal with my upgrade as it had already started, told their supervisor about that loon in Cork adn she said write a letter, not acceptable etc) - with a line of thanks about the helpful guy I finally got in Cork later who simply did his job professionally. One out of three isn't good.

PS No callback from the 'supervisor' either.

He would have been told no supervisor available and be promised a callback - which won't happen.

I have been calling Sky occasionally for almost two decades now and i have to say the cork office is the pits..................

I actually know more about sky tv than those muppets :mad::mad:

We've now been paying close to 30% more for sky in the republic than in the UK for more than a year due to the sterling difference.
Any sign of them adjusting prices?

Ok sterling has weakened but it's still circa 25p different than when they last adjusted prices.
