basically after years and years with putting music onto computers
songs are all over the place,

is there any free software that will rename my entire library correctly?

Get iTunes and import the entire folder/folders of music. iTunes has a good viewing option where you can view all the songs as an entire list and specify what order you want them in, i.e. artist or song name.

With luck the mp3s already store some song information so it will save you some hassle of inputting album and songs names etc.

As far as I know, iTunes can't re-organise the songs in the actual folder. It only organises the songs within the program's own playlist/database, if you get me. Maybe you know all this already but I thought it'd be of some help.
