What is a decent 5km runtime on a treadmill. I've been doin around 24:30 and seem to be hitting a plateau. Is this a good, bad or indifferent time? (I'm around 17 and a half stone)

I wouldn't say there's any such thing as a good or bad time per se. It's up to yourself as to whether your happy with your current time or not.

I find threadmills really good for upping your pace consistently, much easier than running on a road or track, since you can set small increments yourself. Next time set your speed just 0.2km/h higher than previously. It won't feel much harder than what your doing at the moment and you'll get a lower time.

Just get 30 mins at a decent pace in at the very least-dont get hung up on distance/time too much!

There's nothing wrong with 24:30, especially if you're just starting out :)

However, don't be that concerned with time. Instead, be concerned with how hard you are working (heart rate is often a good measure of this). If you are unable to measure heart rate while you run, just try to guess it. You should be just able to hold up a conversation if you're working hard enough.

As your fitness improves, you will be able to run faster with the same 'effort level', if you know what I mean.

thats a good time for your weight and the time will drop as your weight drops so keep on track with diet and aim to get it under 20mins
