John Deere 6400 PTO problem

    Has anyone every had problems with a JD 6400's PTO? The 540 gear won't turn the PTO when something is connected? The 540E still works though, and I haven't tried the 1000RPM setting.

    Is there anyway of knowing quickly whats wrong? Or do I have to open up the back of the tractor?

    Haven't a clue, but registering on www.farmingforum.co.uk is a great way to get good tech advice re equipment.

    dont know much bout JD's but is either your pump or brake... could be something a simple as a broken selector but id say lube up cause your goin in........:)

    Brilliant :D

    Before I go down that road though, I'll try some other things. I'm told that the gear selector in the cab, or the cable from it to the selector under the cab could be a little loose and not be engaging correctly.

    I'll check that out before getting out my big hammer and tool selection :pac:
