Ok so we all know where Airbus and Boeing's factory's are.

My question is where are the likes of the MD-11 made?

IM on a msn maps search at the mo.

The boeing factory's are cool when you go to birds eye view. you can look at the front of the buildings! But ya cant do that anywhere in the Airbus factory for some reason.

The MD 11 ceased production in 2001, MD being taken over by the Boeing group.

There are several smaller factories that produce turbo prop and light commuter jets such as Embrearer in Brazil and the Dutch group Fokker. I believe some of the former MD Factories have been taken over for military aircraft development.

The MD-11 was built at the famous Douglas Long Beach plant in California. That woud be easy to find on google. I think the C-17 is still being built in last part of the plant still in use by Boeing. How long that will last is another question. When it finally closes, it will be the end of an era.

For Boening, the wide bodies are built in Everett which is just north of Seattle. You can tour the plant which is worth doing. Did it a couple of years ago, but don't have photos as you'll be shot on signt if seen with a camera.

The narrow bodies are build in Renton which is just south of Seattle. AFAIK, you can't tour this facility but a drive by is worth it if you're in the area.

US Defense secretary announced that the C-17 line is to be closed. No more to be built. USAF to upgrade all its C-5s to C-5M standard instead. Got Combat Aircraft yesterday. Also USAF F-22 delivery capped at 281 units.

The Airbus A320's are now being built in China as well as France.

I think Lockheed company got taken over by Boeing. The B767 was the L1011 Tristar replacement. That was the late 1980's early 90's. The Tristar was the first ever maintenance approval I ever held.

I am old enough to remember the Chinese Tridents being built at Hatfield.

I used to cycle out there about once/twice a month after school to see the latest ones.

They are building Airbuses down in China now ! Are the wings for those ( the Chinese ones ) also built in Chester ? I went around that factory when they were building HS125's , amazing.

Also saw the production line of the Jetstream at Prestwick a couple of times.

Never went around Boeing , or any of the US factories .

To the OP , it's possible Airbus spoke to Google, arn't they something to do with EADS ? They are highly secretive/sensitive which is why they may not be able to be seen.

tis microsoft maps that have the birds eye view! ya cant do it on google.

A month go it was about 5 miles away from the airport and birds eye view was de-activated but now the second any airport boundary comes into view its disabled!

if you look at it do it does seem they have a hell of a lot of hangars!

The first A320 assembled outside Europe successfully completed its inaugural flight yesterday, taking off from Tianjin International in the morning and landing safely a little more than 4 hr. later.

The aircraft assembled at Airbus Final Assembly Line China was ordered by Dragon Aviation Leasing and is set to be delivered in June to Sichuan Airlines. "This A320 assembled in China unquestionably demonstrated the same quality and performance as those assembled and delivered in Hamburg or Toulouse," Airbus Senior VP-Flight & Integration Tests Fernando Alonso said.

Eleven A319s/A320s are scheduled for delivery in Tianjin this year. The production rate will be ramped up to four aircraft per month by the end of 2011. The A320 FALC is a joint venture between Airbus (51%) and a Chinese consortium comprising Tianjin Free Trade Zone and AVIC (49%).

This is as much as I know.
