Sterilising water bottles?

What do you regular cyclists use to sterilise/clean your water bottles and how often do you do it? It is especially pertinant because I have a nasty mouth injury/infection at the moment that I can't shake and may require an operation:eek:

I was thinking Milton/hot water etc. I don't have babies so presumably it'd be similar principle.

I expect most of you hairy-arsed cyclists don't bother with something as poncy as sterilising water bottles...

Boil the bottle in hot water for 10 mins. Sorted.

Vodka instead of water will keep em sterile.

I usually leave them soak in milton once a week or so, a rinse does every other day.

Just put them in the dishwasher on the higher shelf - to avoid the heat off the elements. Always come out squeaky clean.

I boil them occasionally. Usually when things start crawling out of them.

Milton may make the bottles taste funny, regardless of what they say on the packaging. You can get sterilising stuff for home brewing that is flavourless.

    My approach...

Add a bit of water, screw on top, open valve, put in (on side) in microwave for a few minutes.

This is how I sterilised baby bottles for years (except they were upright).

If you don't open the valve, they will explode. If you're concerned about the rate of steam coming out, use less power.

Would that not melt or disfigure the bottles?

I usually throw them in the dishwasher and replace them often enough.

    Milton it is.......sink full of hot water , bottles x 6, plonk plonk , tabs x 2 , leave for 10 to 15 mins...........SORTED..

NB...Dont forget to pull open valve for steeping and if you have screw off bottles take tops off and steep seperately

When you have a bar child, they're kind of a necessity :)

I put mine in the dishwasher too, but some of the thinner bottles warp with the heat so I use steradent tablets, they are the tablets that are used for false teeth. Cheap as chips!

Leave them in the freezer for a few days - that will sort it

Left water bottle soaking in milton over-night . Thing tasted of milton thereafter. Couldn't use it again [might have overdone the measures though]. Boiled water sounds like your best bet.
