Gigs at De Barra's - First Time

Planning to go to the Thomas Truax gig there tonight. I rang to see what the story is with tickets. The girl said doors at 9.30, but be there at 9. I'm used to turning up at gigs like 30-45 minutes after doors. Was she just trying to sell me a few extra pints, or is there a need to turn up there early?
