Dropped my laptop!!

Last night I somehow managed to drop my laptop. :(
Didn't drop it that hard or that far but I still managed to mess it up it seems.

Now when I start it up, the first screen i See is the Acer logo (as usual), then it goes to a screen with black and white writing.
At the top it says "We apologise for the inconvenience but Windows did not start sucessfully. A recent hardware or software change with have caused this" etc etc.

Below it gives me a list of options how to start windows
    Safe mode
    Safe mode with netowrking
    Safe mode wth command prompt
Last known good configuartion (your most recent settings that worked)
    Start windows normally

Then next screen after I choose an option is the usual Windows loading screen. (ie http://www.microsoft.com/library/media/1033/windowsxp/images/using/setup/support/68224windows-logo-loading.gif

Then sometimes it goes to a bluescreen with white writing saying it needs to check either the C drive or the D drive for consistency. Other times it goes to a completly black screen and just remains black and does nothing.

I have let it run the disc consistency check on both the C and D drives a number of times, but still no joy in getting it to work.

Anyone have any ideas, or is it fair to say the laptop is ****ed?

First I would check that the hard-drive and ram modules are seated correctly. Remove whatever panels are necessary and try reseating them.

If there's no luck there, the next scenario (if youre lucky) may just be that the hard-drive is damaged. In which case it is a fairly affordable fix.

    Sorry for late reply.

Removed the panels, everyting seems to still be in place.

do you have any linux boot cds?

if that starts then it's almost certain the hd.
you might even be able to see your files and copy them someone yourself

i'd say small repair shop would be best. you are probably looking at a new hard drive and attempting to recover your data, so get a quote first. depending on age of laptop, it might be cheaper to buy a new laptop. Also depends on value of your data, to you.
