The artwork that Miyamoto had been showing behind closed doors at E3 has been released:

I'm sure plenty of you will spot what the girl looks like...

    My comments there:
What came to my mind was a possible prequel... like Legend of Zelda: The beginning... kind of...

Where it's the very start of the Zelda/Link/Gannon(dorf) stories, before the master sword was forged, the very first hero of Hyrule...

That the girl standing behind link (where the sword would be) makes some sort of sacrifice that empowers the master sword with its evil-banishing properties...

    Maybe?

I haven't played a Zelda on console since A Link to the Past on the SNES. I did play The Phantom Hourglass last year though and enjoyed it so I am looking forward to this next Zelda game.

Could be Gustav (hero of Men) instead of Link, not having an all-powerful sword and all. He only got his hands on a blade in the retrospective cutscene at the start of the Minish Cap.

The girl looks a great deal like the Great Fairy Queen from Wind Waker too.

Perhaps the sword began 'life' as a fairy and then was bestowed upon Gustav?

Perhaps I'm talking out of my arse.

That Artwork wasn't released by Nintendo, it surfaced on the net from an unidentified source.

I could be wrong but it looks like fan art to me, I wouldn't read too much out of it.

Actually, it was released by Nintendo (admittedly after it had been leaked a day or two earlier by some sites), so it is genuine and I'd read plenty into it!

Don't have any theories myself but I seriously cannot wait til I can play this one. I'm such a die-hard LoZ fan.

Link was a major crush growing up, and so far my only non-real-human-being crush to date. :p

"The Beginning" would be awesome. Ocarina of Time kinda fulfills that role though...

My God I take one day off from the internet and end up with egg on my face.

    Cheers for the update though.

It is tough to keep up! I'm still trying to get through all of the E3 news...
