Hi all, new to this forum would like your thoughts on setting up my own club. I would provide everything to do with running like tips, training etc, plus you could accompany me on my training runs. I am an exceptionally talented athlete and I can assure you that with my advice you will excel like never before. I am also available as a pacer for a 2:40 dublin marathon(my pb is 2:21).

Just make sure you give your club a good name - I suggest something like: 'Go Me AC'.

Trendy gear is also a must, are you gonna have official club arm-warmers?

I havent come up with a name yet, but "go me ac" might sound a bit self absorbed and arrogant, I dunno. But you are right about the trendy gear, its a must and its something I am putting a lot of thought into. I have found myself that when you wear the right gear, it gets you noticed, it turns heads and encourages you to run that bit faster, especially when you run by the bus stop etc

I'm all for trendy gear, but :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:????

    Mini marathon?
    :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 87 ✭✭runningman1980

It was a training run, I have not actually run an official marathon race as I only took up running 2 months ago. I measured out the distance in my car first then I ran it. It took a lot out of me and I have not been able to run again until yesterday but I reckon I am fully recovered now.

Truely gifted runner. You'll be getting a vest soon, no doubt

Cool idea? Could I suggest having it as a less formal running collective as well so people can join in without having to leave their own clubs. I'll understand if it's an all-or-nothing approach and I'll have to miss out. Apart from leaving my own club, this sounds like my kind of thing.

I presume we'll have a blog with video clips with snobby indie tracks playing over them on it.

To further the gear ideas - here's what I envisage for the summer track season: colouful racing flats or Nike Lunaracer for the mad soles, compression socks, lycra shorts, wristbands, sunglasses and a peaked cap worn backwards. Heart Rate monitor is optional, t-shirts,singlets, jackets etc. are prohibited.

Have they not changed the odometers in cars over to kilometers yet?

Get in touch with the AAI asap then :) . There is a flight to berlin in a while and with a couple of weeks work you maybe in with a chance ;)

That's a remarkable time to do in training. Have you a coach. I recommend trying one of the Hal Higdon marathon plans. You can find them here http://www.halhigdon.com/

Im sorry everyone, robin, i checked my odometer and yes you are right, it measures in Kilometers so i only ran 16.3 miles, im gutted and feel really stupid. I thought that i was doing really well, im probably not good after all :(

Can we still get the gear?

by my calculations, it would mean that I would be on course for a 4.5hour marathon, not very good, i know, back to the drawing board:confused:

hi everyone, reading with great interest.

i myself would be happy with that time even if it were only in fact 26k.

I am training really hard doing laps around herbert park. i reckon i am the fastest of the runners in the park (it´s usually empty). eventually i want to run 5 k in 15 mins. i am about 2 mins off that at present.

Runningman Don't know why anyone hasn't suggested it to you yet but why not join the Boards AC which is made up of contributers from this forum?

Anyone who has ever been involved in organising a sports club will appreciate the amount of work etc that has to go into it. While this can be rewarding in itself too much of it will get you down. Have a look at these threads. Even if you still decide to go ahead you will pick up some tips etc on how to get things going.

    Seriously, i am not joking.

Maybe i will never achieve that time but that is my goal. i have gone to 4 mins 45 for a mile. i am running a 5k in esker in a few weeks. i ran for crusaders a few years ago but gave it up quickly for football. that is finished now and i am really enjoying my training.

2:21 is only 9 minutes better than an average runner.....I guess it was only a training run.

    I believe you, shels. :)

There is something in the air tonight. I myself got up off my lazy butt after 5 weeks of idleness and ran 4 laps of the track across the road (Lucan, so it is 400m) in an even paced 4:16. I'm really delighted with that. My last mile took me 8:01.

very good time shane, i think maybe i might be better suited for a shorter distance as im not obviously cutting the mustard at marathon distance. i am going to try and run my fastest mile tomorrow and let you know the time

I don´t think it will be so easy to go anywhere near under 4 mins. if i haven´t ran for a while going under 6 minutes feels fast for me.

with regard to my 5k aim(15 mins), i think that i can achieve that by december if i get mind focused.

Do your best tomorrow and warm up first. it´s all about effort. try not to overthink about what you are doing.

Thanks for the advice shane, you really seem to know what you are talking about, check this link I got from someone recently http://www.mcmillanrunning.com/Running%20University/Article%201/mcmillanrunningcalculator.htm, its called the maccmillan trainning calculator. I inputted my time for a 100m sprint, 11 seconds (which I have actually done. It predicts my mile time as 3:44 and my marathon time as 2:06. This says that with the proper training I could be a real contender and to be honest I always thought that of myself. This is really going to focus me now. Will keep you posted

Rineanna, I can assure you there is only one "me" here, the moderators would have picked that up from the start. Anyways you wont get anywhere in life being a cynic, trust me I know. You have to aim high to achieve goals and I will achieve them, nothing surer

I think we may have unearthed a gem here.

    2:21 marathon after 2 months training with 11.0 second 100m pace:eek::eek:

Thats Geb/Bekele esque. Where have you been hiding? Have you done other sports before? You must have been great at these also? A talent like yours has rarely been seen. What I like about you is your modesty and lack of expectation.

Do you have a link to you 100m time showing electronic timing, wind gauge readings? Was it 11.0 or 11.9? Are you sure it wasn't 100 yards? I would like you to join our club and our training group as a sprinter. You have too much talent to waste doing incorrectly measured marathons. You are a sprinter, dude. Contact me. London 2012 beckons, I am so excited. I can't wait for you to run 9.99 and be the first white man (I presume you are a white man!) and I'll get all the kudos and be asked to present at coaching seminars all over the world. I can see it now "How I turned a 2:21 26miles/26km man into a world beating sprinter". I am going to make loads of cash, this is it, I can feel, the big coaching breakthrough, kind like when Louis Walsh discovered Westlife. Contact me:cool:

I hope for your own sake you are taking the piss.

I doubt the potential legend has the link. It turns out his 2.21 marathon was actually 26K. It was accurately measured in his car though.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,144 Mod ✭✭✭✭robinph

I think the 100m may have actually been the correct distance, just the timing was done by counting in his head. The branches on the trees were not waiving about a whole lot at the time though so I think it's safe to say the wind speed was within limits.
