    Hey folks,

I recently discovered a hole in the oil sump of my 02 megane. Can anybody tell me how much it would cost to get a new sump and is it a big job?

    Thanks a mill

It may be possible to get it welded. She Who Must Be Obeyed did the sump on a ridiculous car-park kerb, and welding it was so cheap I didn't bother suing the car-park owning muppets.

Someone else must have, though, as they altered the kerb layout since.

Sumps are cheap to be honest. Its just a metal pan.

When you take it off make sure there isn't damage other than the sump.

Don't forget to fit a new gasket while you're at it. If you need the car urgently I have seen sumps temporarily repaired with chemical metal, although I take no responsibility for the results.;)

Before I was laid off in January I used to weld aluminium sumps. Charge about 30 smackers and never ever had one leak. Go to a place that makes truck bodies or a good metal fabricating factory they will be able to weld it for you. Start to finish it takes about 20 minutes and that includes cleaning it. You must remove ALL rubber and plastic from it or it will melt into it while it is being welded.
    Regards.
