I need fake tan help desperately!

Often when I use fake tan, it goes wrong. Usually it comes out orange, plus I have a big problem trying to get makeup to match. Also, it flakes and peels off very unevenly, even if I've exfoliated and all that. This is ok if I'm only wearing it for a one-day special event, but I want to wear it all the time now so I need it to stay even permanently.

Some fake tans I've used are St Tropez, Clarins, Xen-Tan and the Body Shop. I can't remember which others now. Xen-tan is supposed to be specially formulated to be guaranteed not to go orange but it went very orange on me. You should see my holiday photos from when I was wearing it, I looked like a shiny oompa-loompa.

What I need is a fake tan that won't go orange at all, some foundation/concealer/face powder that totally matches it, and some good tips on how to make it always stay even and never go patchy!

Would a build up tanner such as Johnson's Holiday Skin not be better for you? Then you can keep building till you get the colour you want??

Do you use a lotion or mousse? I found when I used a mousse it went on better.

Lancaster I found the best tan I've ever used. Use bronzer to help match up your face colour with the tan.

I haven't used fake tan in about 2 years so I dunno if there are better products on the market now. But I think you're always gonna have a few patchy areas with fake tan as it fades away.

Fake Bake is very brown. Not even a bit orange.

I'd advise using something like Dove Summer Glow/Garnier Sunkissed moisturier or something like that. Gradual build up, I find it very natural, and I just slap it on any old way really.

    do you use a mitt?

I use gloves. How do you find make up to match? It's impossible to find bronzers, foundations etc that are the same colour as fake tan. You would think the tan companies would make makeup to match.

very good point storm warrior.. it would make life and tanning so much easier..

i dont use a mitt- sally hansen works best without using a mitt. soap and warm water and it comes off no problem!! or.... what is usually do is rub the reidue on my face and Da-Da - there you have it!

(or my boyfriends, if hes tanning my back, lol)

lately ive wore illuminator (vichy) and have then applied bronzer! and it looks fine..

my sister used to use the sally hansen leg spray as it did go on really well but after a while she started to develop really dry scaly patches on her arms she stopped using it for a few days and tried something else and it cleared up grand. so just beware of the leg spray if you use it anywhere else!!!

L'Oreal Nutri Summer is excellent! Never had any problems with it, its one of those gradual moisturizer tanners but I find one coat gives an excellent color, it has been commented on a lot of times!

To stop your skin going so flakey and patchy, mositurise the area each night. Use bath gloves to exfoliate your skin before the next application. I use a lot of different tans and generally find that for foundation, Estee Lauder's 'Tawny' shade matches up to the tan. Use a bit of bronzer on the neck if it's not perfect.

Currently I'm using Lancome Flash Bronzer mousse and I really like it.

Are you supposed to exfoliate every day while you're wearing the tan, or only when it starts to come off?

i cannot sing enough praises for this !! i hated fake tan and too be honest usually avoided using it out of fear off oopa loompa look !!:eek: but i fear no more !! what attracted me to sally hansen is that its not a fake tan as much, its body make up.. its completely fool proof and unlike some other body makeup i have used such as rimmel, it doesnt run at the sight of moisture...or ruin your clothes !! its great for covering up blemishes and uneven skin tone and very natural.. i also had problems of dry skin developing from using it on my arms etc but to combat this i simply exfoliate every time i shower and slap on some moisturiser..does the trick !!!! i find elizabeth arden makeup is also great for your face as it blends very natural with the sally hansen tan and a bit of bronzer dusted along your chest will make the transition of your make up and the tan look more natural !!

use the garnier airbrush skin. I just use the light one as it gives a slight tan that looks real and not orange at all.

I used to use the sally hansen but I cant find the normal body one anywhere!!! ;[[ Ooh I might use the leg one though but I do like the smell of the garnier

Sally hansen is great but I wouldnt use it every day, it transfers onto your clothes a good bit, as it is an instant tan.

Also I cant believe you dont use a mitt with it. Mental! Would never be able to put it on without.

I use it when I'm going out and use it all over my body with no issues at all. I mix a teeny tiny bit in with my makeup too when im putting it so that the colour matches. Been doing it for the past 2 years now!

I swear by St Tropez Mousse. The best thing about it is it dries in 60 seconds. I exfoliate with St Tropez body polish & then I use St Tropez moisturiser, (these are samples I got, last ages thought) I apply the tan with a mitt. It is expensive thought. I think it's usually €27 but I got it during the winter for €17 along with the free samples mentioned above! My sister got a free St Tropez bronzer which is good but use sparingly

Ok, well firstly were you using a mitt when you were applying it?

Secondly - you must be applying a shade too dark for you. Its a good idea to maybe start using the Moisturiser that builds up over a couple of days.

I use Bronz Express and I find it excellent (i've pale skin).

Maybe your putting it on too rough/too much. Why not get it done at a salon and ask them to show you how to do it yourself??

I shower and then apply plenty of moisturises, leave that dry in for en mins and I put on whatever false tan I happen to have, I just have to be careful around my knees, ankles and elbows by only putting a but on. I do not use gloves, I put on the tan on my hands and make sure to make fists and run it all on, then I put toothpaste on my palms and wash it off with a wet cloth after ten mins and I never get orange hands.

No 7 is cheap and all right, I love Piz Bum and St. Tropez, especially when I use the exfoliate in the shower.
