Virgin Atlantic from Gatwick

I am going to book a trip to Vegas in November and want to fly with Virgin from Gatwick as it's a direct flight.

    Two questions.

Firstly, when you fly to the US from Dublin all of your US security checks are done here in Ireland and you are then essentially on US soil once you've passed through. Is this the same in the UK?

Also, the flight out of Gatwick is 11.20am. There is an Aer Lingus flight which arrives in Gatwick at 8.10am. Is this too risky?

If the answer to the first question is no, then it's not too bad but I may be cutting it fine if I have to go through customs first.

    Ta

No - you'll clear security only in the US if you depart from the UK.

As for the two flights, it's no more direct changing in Gatwick than it is in the US ;)

The connection is do-able but if all is on time and nothing goes wrong. I generally ask myself how often things don't go wrong in these situations though.

If you're travelling after October 25, BA will also be flying daily from Heathrow to Las Vegas. Fares are around the €600 euro mark including flights to/from Dublin. As they'll be on the same ticket you'll have luggage checked through at each end, and protection if something goes wrong.
