am doing this tri in a couple of weeks but prob wont be able to get down to have a look at the course , had a look at times last year and judging from them i would think the following :
    Swim is not 750m
    Bike is not 25k
    Run maybe 5k
Maybe i am wrong ,please let me know if i am ?
Also , could anyone tell me what the bike and run legs of the race are like ?
    All info welcome
    thanks

    Hi Seres,
Ballina is a lovely event. Great crowds and support from the locals. I did this event last year and it was my first triathlon.

It is a 750m swim. The thing is that it's a downstream swim. Last year the flow was quite strong, as it is most years from what I hear.

I'm not sure how long the bike leg was but it wasn't that tough. I do know that the course for the cycle changed at the last minute last year due to road works so it may revert to the original one this year. I had damn all cycling done and still managed it with a 28k average. Nothing special I know but I was happy with it. :)

The run is a mix off off-road and road. It starts on the road up a small hill out of transition and into a woodland area via the river. it's a bit uneven by the river but fine other than that. It's back out on to the road from the woodland. Very nice indeed. I clocked it at 5.15k on my Garmin last year.

    Hope that helps.

    thanks pgibbo
ya looking at the times for the swim i was thinking 'thats really quick ', also for the bike times seemed very quick but its only 20k , it actual suits me best if the run is a little over 5k , i expect it to be my best leg.;)

Would have thought the cycle was more or less bang on 20km. I know I did an overall fast time last year, and my swim wasn't that fast relatively speaking to account for the overall good time, so I am thinking the other two legs were not a great deal longer than 20km / 5km.

Great race, just a shame its not on the national series.

It's a lovely race. We made a point of recommending it to all the newbies in our club.

Really great organisation, lots of local support, very friendly local club. The run is beautiful. Cycle nice and flat and I didn't see any drafting. Fantastic goodie bag.

I'd say a lot of clubs recommended it as it's not most newbies first race. A lot of people that didn't get into Mullaghmore signed up for Ballina instead.
