About being "thanked" on boards

Does anyone else ever laugh when they say a heap of thanks being thrown on someones comment, especially when the comment itself was cool?

I always feel compelled to give my thanks to it too.

And more to the point, whats the most "thanked" post youve ever seen?

Disclaimer: This is not an invitation to thank me ironically ;)

Sometimes I see a really dumb comment and wish there were a thumbs down option.

The thanks option is a good idea, it encourages sensible thinking and clarity of expression imo.

Report post is always useful. "Dear Mod - This guys an idiot!"

But i get your point...Maybe reporting is too extreme. Kinda like when you boo or give thumbs down to a wrestler. Your still gonna watch him fight - your not gonna go in and try kick his ass.

Most thanked post I've seen was the one Biggins made when they closed down the ward in Crumlin children's hospital http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=60273097&postcount=1

I just added my name to that massive list

Like i said, peer pressure. And obviously a useful post too...

The thanks system is pretty good. Except on AH. On AH everybody's out to make that sharp putdown and the standard of discussion has gone down.

I think it encourages people to be clever on AH, tbh. And also, AH's standard of discussion isn't supposed to be highly sophisticated!:D

Actually that's true. There are proper forums for serious discussion. And then there's AH. A bit of levity is good.

I think it should be an "I agree" button.

Don't know how many was on Biggins post, but it possibly out-thanked Terry in the nip at the spire pic. Dunno what my own was. Given that most of my posts are in AH, it was probably something daft.

    What's the opposite to thank?

I want to unthank the **** out of this thread.

Why is this such a recurring issue? I don't think the thanks button has any effect on my posting style though when a post is thanked it does leave a warm fuzzy feeling that someone agrees with me or shares the same sense of humour.
If it does actually bring about thanks whores who make jokes not cause they think it's witty or funny then so be it. Still more jokes to have a laugh at.

I pity anyone who issues thanks in this thread.

I have 526 out of 264 posts so far. Every now and again I go back and try to figure out why the heck they were thanked.

    You people are weird.

The current system is good methinks, but as some said already there should be 'I agree' button because alot of the time I read through thread's and see a post(thats not particularly witty or useful) but is basically what I could have replied with but theres no need for repetition!

I love being thanked. The fact someone would bother to click a button for me....

I think we should get rid of the thanks button, or at least not have a counter to how many thanks people have. It's just another way for people to compare their e-penises. For shame

Does anyone notice that the majority of the "Post of the Day"s all appear in the Poker forum?

I usually noticed them from the Photography forum
"Look at this picture of a toaster"
    Feckin shutter hippies

Ironic indeed that I use the thanks function to express appreciation for that remark. Naughty naught AH thanks whores. Well no more.
