Hello all ,I am flying to LA from london heathrow on Tuesday morning next week at 11 15, i have to book a flight into london still, il probably have to book it for mondayy night because the earliest aerlingus flight into heathrow comes in at 8 15 on tuesday morning , I heard heathrow is huge so would i have sufficent time to make it to the check in for my LA flight? Bare in mind that the LA flight is in a different terminal and check in closes at 10 15

Or if anyone could suggest something different or a different flight etc. it would be great.
Also If i was to stay in heathrow Monday night ,can anyone suggest a cheap convienent place to stay.
    Please

Which Terminal are you flying to LA from? that makes a big difference.

3 hours is a little tight, but manageable.

I think aer lingus flys into terminal 1, The flight to LA is in Terminal 3

    Are you frickin insane!

3 hours is loads of time.
As big as Heathrow is 3 hours is ample time to get from one extreme to another.

Stacks of time. I would say three hours would be the minimum for T4 or T5 but to T3 you are fine. When you retreice your bag from the luggage carousel, it will take you about twenty minutes to walk to T3 via the subway. You will be at the check in desk around 9am I would say if you land on time.

BTW, you can fly BMI or Aer Lingus, they both arrive at around the same time. You will probably be held at Dublin for a while, but don't panic, you have plenty of time and they factor in about a 20 minute buffer in the timetable.

I made it from my arrival gate in T1 to my departure gate in T3 in 45 mins including 2 security checks, and also being stopped by security to check my passport (because I was running).

My advice is to keep security checks in mind, you're travelling to the US and should always allow extra time. If the a night before flight is cheaper and the money you save would pay for a room only rate in a hotel nearby, then that's your best option.

    Bon voyage!

I did this journey from T1 to T3 recently.

Its a long walk under the airport but easily done. There is a massive difference between the two terminals.

T1 will be very calm and relaxed and T3 is a fupping madhouse. You will see for yourself.:D

The instant you come through those doors into Arrivals turn RIGHT. Head straight through the door and down the stairs outside. 2 flights down and then follow the signs to T3.

Walking time 10-15minutes with pulley bags.

Berty is right .... T3 is the maddest terminal at LHR.

If you are ever driving into LHR the traffic in the mornings is always backed up , and 90% of it seems to be going to T3.

Around that time is very busy , with all the trans-atlantics etc.

You may be able to check your bags straight through with Aer Lingus/BMI it would be worth checking out as this would give you extra time to play around with

The Travel Lodge Heathrow central is probably as cheap as you will get, whilst having a good expectation of the quality.

try www.heathrowairport.com and look under the "Plan your trip" section. There is a link to a hotel booking engine. Lots of the hotels have a heathrow shuttle, but some, especially the cheaper ones don't so you will have to catch either a local bus or a taxi.

The buses around all Heathrow will cost you £2 so they're not expensive and there are loads of them. www.tfl.gov.uk gives you all the bus info.

btw, no matter how close a hotel is to the airport, you can't walk to Terminals one, two or three.

edit: I should have added, if you are going the night before, try Gatwick as well, the flights are quite often cheaper there, but you have to weigh up the cost to get to Heathrow and what time the buses run.
