Deloitte Starting Date

Has anyone due to start this Autumn in Audit in Deloitte heard when they are starting... It's slightly worrying i know i got an email saying that our jobs were still safe.. However it's still annoying not knowing when to start because of accomodation and holidays and stuff.

The people coming out of a masters going into Tax were told they are not starting still Mar 31st 2010 while those coming out of a degree are starting in October the normal date.. They will hardly do the same for audit and put those coming out of a masters starting in March?? it would seem a bit stupid as far as i know the busy period is jan and feb so no point in bringing us in after the busy period.

And Yes I am grateful to still have a job but untill i'm actually in the door myself i don't feel that assured!

Does your 3.5 years start from the first day you start training or is it officially started another day?

Are the Deloitte tax trainees that have been deferred to March being given any compensation for this? I know that PWC have offered trainees have been offered €5k in Pwc if they defer by a year.

Also does anyone know what the starting salaries are for tax this year in the big 4?

Do any of you guys know what department you are going to? There was different start dates last year depending on what dept you were going into.

Graduate intake is staggered over the course of 1-2 months. So it could be anytime up to the end of September.

From the firms point of view it would actually make a lot of sense to bring the people coming from Masters in at the end of March instead of October. If you were to split a training contact very generally and say half is spent as a junior and half as a senior. By starting the Masters students just as one busy season ends would effectively mean that they will have only one busy season as a junior and two as a senior as they would have 21 months of experience by the time they come around to their second busy season.

Assuming that overall wages for the 3 year contract is the same regardless of when you start it would represent better value for money from the firms point of view, which lets face it all employers are looking for at the moment.

I haven't heard of any firms doing this, and think it would be a bit harsh on the trainee, but as an ex-audit manager (luckily I got out just before things went pear shaped!) just pointing out why they might be doing it.

Anyone here do a masters before they joined the firm?

Im starting in audit in 2010 after i have done my masters. Slightly nervous considering what i have read above with regards to the tax trainees and their march start date.

Also i signed my training contract before deloitte cut their staff's wages, im wondering will deloitte honour the contract amount or will i receive 10% less than i signed for?

I'm just finishing my masters now before going in. we also signed or contracts before the price cuts but got an email saying that our starting salary is being reviewed.. so if ours is cut your can be very sure that yours well definately be cut..

You never know what is going to happen in the year so there is no point in you worrying now when you're going to go in in 2010 after your masters you might be very glad of a break.. we only found out about two weeks ago when we are going in.
