Snapping Hip

Hi all, hope someone has a bit of advice. I've just started running after a few months layoff from exercise in general. I did a few 5-8km runs on the treadmill with no problems, then went outside for the first time yesterday for a 10km run. I have noticed in the past that occasionally I can get a snapping sensation in my left hip. From what I've read it seems to be due to my iliotibial band snapping over my hip joint when the leg is travelling from front to back. I noticed it in particular at the end of my run which was mostly downhill. What I'd like to know is whether people think this is due to me running outside after not having done much in the last few months, or may it be due to my gait or some other factor. I'm not looking for a clinical diagnosis, just some comments from others who may have had experience with this condition.

    Thanks
