Hi, techno bimbo here so bear with me. Can anyone tell me how to save video from the net onto my pc. I have tried using keepvid and followed instruction to copy url but it did not work. Maybe I need it in lay mans terms.

I want to save video from different sites. I also would like to know how to upload video on to a site such as facebook. I have tried it also but I think the file is too large. When I download photos I usually reduce there size. do I have to do this with video too?

    Thanks:o

I highly recommend download helper for getting videos. You can find it here. If you're not already using firefox (download helper is a firefox plugin) then you can get that here.

Reducing video file size is a bit more fiddly. Maybe try uploading to youtube first, then using that on facebook? (Note: I'm not sure if that's even possible).

    http://www.ant.com/toolbar

Firefox addon/toolbar, click download when the video is open and it goes into your firefox downloader.
That saves them as flv aka flash which is fairly small and shouldn't be any hassle to upload.I have used them to upload to bebo fairly quickly in the past.

thanks, works perfectly. Now I just need to figure out how to email the clips. They seem to be too big.

    No worries glad it helped.

Ever try putting them into a rar file? That can compress them a bit

Or set up a Gmail account and then you can install a programme called gmail drive. Its basically your gmail account as a external drive.
So send the videos to the gmail drive, open gmail in web browser and send.

Ill explain it more if you want to try it?

rar wont compress them at all. flv files are already heavily compressed.

If you compress them into a rar, im sure they would be somewhat smaller?

Right chaps, I am confussed! Techno bimbo, remember!!

rar means naff all to me unfortunately.

I have agmail account and tried to send a video clip earlier and it just kept sending for about 15 mins!

    Obviously not the right format.

Actually this is how bad i am after I downloaded a vid it took me ages to find where it was downloaded to.

    Sorry got carried away there

No there shouldn't be a format issues with gmail. Hover over the video and can you tell me what size comes up in mb?

Also on the window called downloads in firefox right click on the video downloading and it should say open containing folder.
Or there likely to be on your desktop

Ok, the size is 10.9mb ( to my limited knowledge that is not big.....I may be correcteed on that)

I have no download button on firefox????

I downloaded to ant.com and have a download button there.

I do use firefox though so maybe it is just hidden somewhere.

I do have a download helper button.

No that is not to big but depends on what service or speed your on.I wont go all technical but how fast you downloaded the video, your lucky if you send it @ 1/4 of that download speed.
SO you could use that as a ruff rule, that download it-5 minutes, send it-20 minutes.

Oh the download window, with ant tool bar the downloads window should open itself and you will see it on the tray beside your start button.

select cd drive(should be d drive)
should come up you have files to be written to cd beside time in tray
    click on bubble
window with the files in gery/faded opens
then burn these files to cd

Thanks, but if I just want to mail them without burning them to a cd, how do I go about it? I think the video clips need to be reduced in size.

Oh right sorry i thought u meant mail as in post.
Thinking about it mailing/posting them could solve all your problems and not cost a lot if its only one disc.

You could try msn messenger, that can be slow but its basically open a conversation with the person and drag the video file into it and they accept it.

After that your best of uploading to a file hosting site and send them the link to download them.
Email as far as im concerned isn't really set up to send anything bigger than documents or some pictures.

Thanks, I think I may just save them all and burn them to disc. Snail mail wins this time.

No worries and if there's a lot you could always get a cheap memory stick and post that.
