If amps were cars...

I was trying to explain to my girlfriend why I wanted/thought I needed a new amp, and the terms I used were: "it's a bit like getting a flashy fancy car". She said "A Ferrari?". And I said, "no, probably more of a Porsche".

Actually, I reckon the one I got (Boogie Nomad 55) is actually more of an Audi TT, but the metaphors got me thinking: I have no idea how to describe my old amps in those terms.

My JTM45 reissue would've been an old English classic, like an MG or something, perhaps. But of course, cars aren't reissued, so what would that mean for my modern remake?

And my early 70s vintage Laney? Perhaps an old Wolsley or something.

So which amps are the Ford Fiestas (Marshall MGs?) and which are the Lambourghinis (Matchless? Boogie Mk 5?) and what about all the ones in between?

    Anyway... had to share that...

Would something like a Fender Twin be one of those big Toyota pickup trucks? Basic (super-clean, huge headroom) workhorse (takes pedals really well) solid (big and heavy)?

Aye, Fiesta here too! No room for saving for a flash car what with all the nice amps out there to be had...

    I like the twin/pickup analogy.

There are so many parameters for the analogy, though: cost, image, flashiness, perceived status symbol, versatility, reliability, even country of origin and age...

    Hmm...

I guess i have a Suzuki Swift. (Micro Cube) Not the nicest, but small and fun. - suzuki-swift-carzone-specials-text_1.jpg

There's the Zimmer Quicksilver. (Peavey Bandit) Horrible, big, ugly and American.- 20071031064309990013

And the Nissan Skyline R34. (Peavey Triple XXX) Bit of a dark horse, under stated and not many of them around. Just let it, and it'll rip your head off. - Nissan_Skyline_R34_GT-R_N%C3%BCr_001.jpg

Links to pictures, for those non car head. Fug it, i'm embedding the pictures. :)

    Haha, probably not, no.
Just waiting for you to get something a little nicer when you can afford it, then you'll see.
Anyway, going a bit off topic.

I want a classic 1966 Jaguar XJ13, smooth, great runner and with a bit of bite.

I guess my Harmony guitar amp is probably something like this...

    49622d1223944401-yellow-1962-volkswagen-bug-front.jpg

They were both made in '62 and are small, loud, noisy and a lot of fun. :D

My Genz Benz Shuttle bass amp is something like this...

    tesla-roadster.jpg

Tesla Roadster (electric car capable of 0-60mph in under 4seconds.)

They're both sleek, lightweight, very powerful and use a more efficient "engine". :p
The shuttle has a Class D power amplifier module.

Lol, that car would be an original fender deluxe reverb. Sleek, small and great power for the size.

A hot rod deville is like a modern mustang with engine trouble. Big, clunky, and not as good as the original 60's mustangs :pac:.
