Ok here's whats happening. I handed in my gun to local Gardai a few years ago and now I am trying to get it back.

I have a license for it at the moment. It doesnt expire until later this year.

I have visited the local Garda barack last Thursday, Monday, Tuesday and again today trying to get hold of different people. Every day I went up I was told to talk to a different Garda and then when I would get hold of them they told me I had the wrong person I need to see somebody else.

Today I got talking to the Seargent and he told me that the gun is more than likely not in the barrack anymore and its even possible that the gun has being destroyed.

When I handed the gun in 6 years ago I was very careful and asked a few times and in a few different ways 'could I get my gun back easily whenever I wanted it'. I was told yes. There was absoluelty no mention that it would be destroyed on me. Though unfortunately I never got that in writing.

So my question is. Could I go to a solicitor and bring this further. Do I have a case? And on a side note, would anybody know (even just roughly) how much a case like this (if i have one) would cost me. Im willing to spend about a grand and a half either getting my gun back or getting compensation if they have destroyed it without informing me.

Also incase it helps I have detailed notes on all my visits to the garda in connection with this case.
