Virgin Airlines Vs. Malaysia Airlines

I'm booking flights home for Christmas from Oz and I've a choice between two Airlines, Virgin and Malaysia Airlines.

Pricewise, the Virgin flight is about AU$2450 and the Malaysia is around AU$2500 so its much for muchness really.

Has anyone had any experience with traveling on both airlines? Is one any better than the other? It's about a 30 hour flight so small things like extra leg room, personal tv screen etc. make all the difference!

    Thanks!

Malaysian's service is generally good (food, cabin crew etc) and economy class seating has at least 3 - 4" over Virgin. However, not all planes have video on demand etc but should have personal screens.

Virgin - well can be hit and miss. Great AVOD entertainment, food so-so and crews either great or awful. Very tight seat pitch, but the A340-600's the run to Australia are in a 2 - 4 -2 layout so you're never stuck with two people either side of you if you want to get out of your seat etc.

The last time I was booked on a Virgin flight from London to Kuala Lumpur a few years ago it turned out to be operated by a Malaysia Airlines as code share. It could just be one and the same either way if you're transiting in KL

Could be, but I think they stopped that when they launched their own route to Sydney. I could go digging but I can't be bothered :P

    Thanks for the advice!

Booked the Malaysia Airlines one. Glad to get that out of the way and looking for to a nice proper cold Christmas back home.

FYI, www.kayak.com was able to find me cheaper tickets on cheaptickets.com than going to cheaptickets.com directly.
