    Hi all

I have had Sky since 2001 with the World package. Recently I have had trouble with jitter and freezing on my Pace box. I rang Sky a few weeks back and they quoted me 100 for a call out and possibly more if new equipment was needed. Thought about it and decided to just upgrade my box to Sky+ and hopefully the engineer will sort all probs when he arrives. On top of the fact that they refused to budge on their extorinate price of 100+99 installation now I get an email to say that it will be at least 3 months before it arrives...!!!! I was told that if I ordered the Sky HD it would arrive faster... Thing is as of yet I dont have a HD TV (Only a meager Panasonic PD50 which I will hate to sell). So my question is.... will the Sky HD box work ok with me TV...???? Really dont want to tell my 6 year old that there will be no Hannah Montanna for 3 months... hahaha

    Cheers

Well if you are with them since 2001 they could easily give you a free box. My box went faulty when I was with sky and I rang them and like your case they wanted to charge me for replacing it. Just tell them you want to cancel and your going to sign up with upc or whoever and they will back down. Its also possible that your dish has just moved slightly and only needs to be realigned. Either way I wouldnt give them a cent and they hate to lose customers.

Yeah I may well do that as I think its a bit rich asking for that type of money from a long time customer. Any idea if the HD Box would actually work on a non HD TV...??

This is exactly why I cancelled my subscription.

But - you can now buy the HD box from Curry's etc in Ireland for around 50Euro - or you could a few weeks ago - have a look online or call them up.
Currys > PC World > Dixons etc.

HD box will work find with a non-hd TV.
In order though to use the Sky+ functionality - which I really miss - you will need to upgrade your subscription (& see next paragraph)

Pls note though - that for HD and Sky + -> 2 cables are plugged in from the Satellite - hence their offer of a call out...
Not sure if you can do this yourself or what the implications are of only having 1 cable plugged in.... Maybe if you know a lecky willing to help you can get this done.

Other option is to have a look on ebay or some other selling site for a pace box.

Alternatively try calling their customer serv and asking to speak to a supervisor - as a long term user they really should offer some sort of deal - but I doubt it - this is how they make good cash. As I said it was their refusal to budge on this that caused me to cancel my subscription after 5 / 6 yrs - never looked back :)
