Hi guys, i went down to the district court today to spectate on how a court works and to takes notes etc etc but wasnt allowed in because the policeman said its a family law/court/case. What does this mean? Why arent the public allowed in? What other cases are the public disallowed access to? Is there are certain when the courts are open to the public? Any answers much appreciated. thanks.

    peace

Family Law Case are held under what is know as "The Incamera Rule" which basically means that the Public are not allowed inside the courtroom while the case is on, its to protect those involved.

All other court proceedings are open to the Public

You should head down to Dolphin House, just off parliament street, on a Thursday morning - all life is there in Court 49 and it is open to the public as that particular court doesn't deal with Family or Juvenile issues on Thursdays.

You should go to the Bridewell courts or else tallaght or Blanchardstown. Sometimes some cases of sexual assault on minors etc are also held in camera no admittance but usually only for about 20mins or so then normal court resumes.
