hi - i am looking at flights that i want to book, but they transit through JFK and Atlanta, both going and coming home.
I was refused entry to the USA once when a job were trying to send me, it was only for training but they said i needed a training visa or some nonsense like that. Anyway i think this makes me ineligible for the visa waiver program if i want to visit the states, and i would need to apply for a visitor visa if i ever wanted to visit. I'm finding it hard to find info on my situation when it comes to transit stops though - can anyone shed any light? From previous experience with USA immigration, they are totally by the book and i don't want to waste time and money on flights if they don't let me pass through.

If you've been declined entry before, then yes, you would need a visa (and that includes for transit) C-1 visa is the one you would need.
