I believe one was run this year but there wasn't nearly as big a take-up as the womens - probably because most men either do a marathon or would feel like a wimp bragging about walking a half-marathon like most of the entrants in the women's mini marathon do ;)

Marathons were men only until 1966

Although I am completely against any form of sexism, I do wonder if the event would have the same feel-good factor if it was an all-male event or a mixed event (in other words just the 'Dublin mini-marathon')

For me the event is NOTHING to do with sports or athletic achievement, and only a small number of participants would consider it a race. Very few people time themselves.
The beauty of the event is that literally anyone who can walk can enter, and it's mostly about having a bit of fun and raising money for charities that are important to you.

I know this is a sweeping generalisation, but I do wonder if men would be able to participate and still keep the competitive element out of the day! Or would there be a pressure to make it longer?

But the most important question is probably this - is there really any push from anyone for a similar event for men? Are there really men who feel discriminated against that they can't participate? Or do some men just feel hard done by for the sake of feeling hard done by?

thats a fair point. maybe the OP (lol) is a bit of a whinger.

but you know. its just like when men have things all the time and women say well we want to be part of that too / pc / equality stuff that drives me up the wall.

Not only can I be non-competitive, but I wager I'd be better at it than you!

Actually, I just remembered that men can take part but they have to do it in drag...

And so if there was a men's one, participating women would have to wear fake beards... class.
