    Released: April 2008

Don't have it but my mate is a Portishead worshipper and I've had a listen to it - superb stuff. Some of it I find reminiscent of Joy Division, which is always a good thing in my books... :)

It's an amazing album and definitely their best. Takes a good few listens to get into, but The Rip is accessible and easily one of the best songs of the last ten years.

    Heck, even Radiohead covered it.

It still hasn't clicked with me in the same way Dummy did.. Sounds less bassy, and overall not quite as smooth a listen.
But without comparing it to their other stuff, and looking at it as an album entirely on it's own merits, it's really excellent. Beth's still the voice of sadness.

From my first listen i knew it was something special but it took repeated listening over a long period to realize how special it actually was. There are just so many different styles on display in Third and yet its still maintains that Portishead sound.

The highlights for me are the way 'Silence' just suddenly stops. The beautifully simple 'Deep Water' and the way 'Machine Gun' just explodes into life after 'Deep Waters' serenity. The piano chords in 'Magic Doors' and the electronic build up of 'The Rip'. I could go on and on and on....

One of my favorite albums of all time

Love that Radiohead version too but im biased:D

Am more of a Massive Attack admirer myself, but bought Third on the strength of the reviews, for me The Rip is the highlight. Very good album.
