    It sounds like a complete network disconnection is happening.

    Try this

    the next time you experience the problem. Open a command prompt and try to ping any website just to see if you can contact anything.

    If you're connecting using wireless then its not uncommon for Vista to drop network connections intermittently. I had this problem and resolved it by installing a new network card driver.

    Prior to SP2, Vista (and earlier Windows versions) has a limit on the rate of new connections per second. With a P2P app running, this will consume the possible new connections and leave none for Firefox to open.

    put a cap on your upload and download settings in utorrent , dont leave them set to 0 which means unlimited ...... that might be affecting your ability to connect to a website
