    Hi all,

Ireland has 220V appliances (not sure what the A rating is).

Will a 230 or 240V appliance be ok?

    Thanks

No problem at all - most appliances seem to range between 220-250.

Ireland is 230v, but yes your appliance should work fine. I presume you are talking about a 240v uk 50hz appliance rather than a US 60hz appliance

    yup that's right.... I suppose there's more issues with using a 220V device on a 240V plug rather than a 240V device on a 220V plug.

should be no issues either way, they all work within quite wide voltage tolerances in either direction.

WRT A-rating, that's the energy efficiency rating of appliances. They're rated between A and G, with A being more efficient (and more confusingly now, A+, A++, etc).

Following link should show some insight.

Ireland was 220V in the recent past. We are now 230V to move in line with the rest of the EU.

It is important to note that 230V is the average RMS value and this varies constantly. It would be quite normal for you supply voltage to drop to 208V and to rise to 235V.
