    quick note to everyone

make sure you have the correct power setting before connecting it to your laptop as too much power will damage your laptop ,

If its any help I got a power supply recently for around €10 delivered from this guy on Ebay - one of the power sellers. very fast delivery - something like 6 days which was fast considering it came from Hong Kong or somewhere out in that neck of the woods.

I've ordered a couple of power supplies from Asian sellers, and they've all been fakes. They all also seemed to break down from about 2-3 months and 6 months.

Hopefully that won't happen to you though.

    Hi,
I agree with Brophs. Got one before the xmas, worked fine but any pressure on the connection and its knackered. The transformer also gets very hot, and that is only after a couple of hours use. Think Maplins may cost a little more but you can return if its faulty and I'm sure its better quality. Take it from one who knows, eventually I had to buy the Maplins one.

Dealextreme are known to specialise in fakes so beware as a dodgy PSU could go up in smoke.Look at Apple. :)

It's actually not enough current that can damage the laptop as it tries to draw more and causes excess heat.A PSU with a higher current rating than you need is actually safer than a lower one.

These are handy, compared to inverters (DC to AC), and more efficient.
However - I got one very similar to this (the connectors seem identical) from ALDI about 18 months ago. It also had a USB output and a selection of adaptors to charge phones. Think it cost €15-€20?
I was able to power a DELL Latitude and a Fujitsi Amilo with it, not alas a MacBook as as usual Apple use a wierdo plug.

Be careful though. Despite the wattage you may find the switch-on surge of your laptop causes it to cut off, if you have some power-hungry beast and a flat laptop battery. However if you use it to charge up the battery first (with laptop off or hibernating) that should not happen.

Big warning! - do not leave it unattended! When the supply battery voltage drops off the unit may start to overheat. Sounds paradoxical I know but it has happened to me twice. My second one, which is still working, has a slightly melted plastic exterior. The first one which I brought back to ALDI melted badly and produced fumes. The battery voltage had dropped to something like 11 volts by then.

I use mine in a campervan - charge the laptop while driving, and watch DVD/avi's/TV or access the 'net with it drawing power from the leisure battery in the van (not the engine battery - too easy to be left stranded after a late night.....!)

This DealExtreme one seems higher rated than my ALDI one in fairness.

ratings don't matter if its fake

there used to be laptop adaptors with very optimistic ratings and when they were disected it was just a smaller power supply with some metal strips to make up the weight

how are dealextreme on returns of fakes ?

I got a ds card off deal extreme before christmas for my dad, when the product stopped working after a day I e-mail deal extreme but got no repsonse, I then e-mailed the company that manufactors the DS card and the did reply to me and advised me that Deal Extreme sell fake cards and that the card i recieved was indeed fake, they told me deal extreme are nortious for all there fake prodcust. I sent this response onto deal extreme asking for my money back or at least a working DS card, I GOT NO REPLY AND I NEVER WILL, DO NOT EVERY DEAL WITH DEAL EXTREME THEY SELL FAKE PRODUCTS. And if you are buying a power supply unit for a laptop it could damage your laptop or worse overheat and cause a fire.

Nearly everything they sell are fakes so I'm not sure if you can return them unless they fake fakes? ;)
