is here and ive just done the d-verb test.

    clocked @ 2.8ghz
    hyperthreading off
    307 instances of d-verb

    clocked up to 3ghz
    hyperthreading on
    358 instances of d-verb

gonna rise the clock to 3.2 next (i7 is safe up to 4ghz) and raise the ram frequency. hopefully ill be hitting the 400 mark then.

    these i7's are just awesome.

if thats your daw machine , i dont think its a good idea to run an overclocked one on customer sessions- you bluescreen it and you will have some very unhappy people,

    You're overclocking the CPU?

Gotta echo what DaDumTish said, I don't think that's a good idea when stability is paramount. You said it ran 358 instances of D-Verb...did you let it run that for a 10 hour session?

why in the high hell are you going gah gah on a virtual studio when you've got the real freacking thing at Salt????

Overclocking reduces the life expectancy of the processor as well so thats something to consider. Run something like memtest for a day and see if it crashes.

Have i7 here and you can clock to 4ghtz and abuse it for 3 days in row and it sits there happy. The problems with over clocking occur with badly seated fans / crap paste and inadequate cooling. I've got air cooled and the chip has no problems with prime95 stress testing (which is vicious)

    8 threads ;)

exactly. i know what im doing overclocking to a level. the i7 is built for it and ive only scratched the surface.
Overclocking reduces the life expectancy of the processor

definitly, if you're pushing it to the limits but if you're only breaking into the inbuilt tolerances then you wont affect the processor at all.
