VW golf problem

    this is my first post here and i hope you can help. iv a 2002 golf tdi and occasionally when driving it a noise comes from the clutch. its a grinding noise that only hapens when putting the car into 1st gear or else gearing down. im fairly sure the clutch is not slipping....iny ideas on the problem.

    Could be the dual mass flywheel.Selector forks inside the box also give trouble. Either way your gearbox will have to come out.

    It sounds like an internal gear problem, the gear sycromesh for first gear are probably worn. Big job.
