We (2+2 babies) are planning to take the ferry (Oscar Wilde) from Rosslare to Roscoff and then spend a week on France's west-coast. How far south do we need to got to get warmer weather than on a good day in Ireland? What coastal towns are worth spending a day or two in? Any must-sees/must-does?

I would always go towards La Palyrme, Jard Sur Mer or anywhere around Le Sables D'Olonne area.

La Palymre is the biggest and has the most mobile home parks. The biggest of which is run by Siblu these days. Its called Les Charmettes. Amazing place. Loads of paddling pools for you and babies, great entertainment, great weather, close drive to beach, town and zoo.

Jard Sur Mer has smaller parks and is very much laid back.

You are talking a 4-5 hour drive(including stop for lunch) to the parks. Parks close their gates at between 8pm-10pm so depending on your potential arrival you may want to stop overnight on the way.

You can even do this for free in other mobile home parks if you do it in advance.

If you are doing this sometimes you can save several hundred by booking yourself, i.e ferry and accomodation rather than booking through a company such as Keycamp etc - the only disadvantage of this is that you may not have kids clubs etc, especially if you are not going in high season

About 3 hours drive should be plenty for you, this would bring you to Southern Brittany, Carnac is a nice area

Les Sables D'Olonnes (the Vendeé region) should tick your boxes for the climate! It's north of La Rochelle. We stay near a small town called St Gilles Croix De Vie. Lovely little spot!

Bordeaux city! ( it's a great place to visit and it's really hot in the summer ) - you are also very near the coast of Arcachon, Lacanau beach and holiday resorts.
