1 day insurance for provisional

    Odd thing but here we go.

    Will any insurer insure me for one night driving a car from one county to the next?

    I am 19yrs old with a UK provisional license and have no way to get home from Cork to Kerry. I can borrow a car of my parents but I am unsure if I can get it insured (only asking since its a weekend).

    I need it to drive for one day for 1.5hrs. I have a choice between a convertible *hey xD* or a MPV (1.8litre).

    Any chance they will give it to me,and if so, what would you recommend the costs to be? My parents have full licesnse for like 20yrs are over 50 etc with no points.

    cheers

    You do realize that your UK provisional licence has absolutely no validity here in Ireland don't you? So insurance isn't really the issue here, you just can't drive here on it, full stop.

    no chance.

    As far as theyre concerned you'd crash it and then just claim after paying barely any of a premium!

    * no licence
    * even if it was valid, no apparent fully licenced driver to accompany you
    * not a chance of getting insurance for 1 day

    get a taxi, buy a bike or walk!

    If you had a full UK licence there is a way to get 1 days insurance. By law you have a 7 day cooling off period when taking out insurance. Take out a policy on the car and then cancel the policy before the cooling off period expires, obviously not very ethical to do this. But as you don't have a valid licence for Ireland no good to you.

    ...............And the number of people who come on this site slagging off insurance companies and they all wonder why they treat SOME clients with suspicion.

    Public transport read about it, very bad in Ireland but still usable with nerves of steel and the patience of joab.
