Team BGRH

It came up in conversation recently that several forums are running successful teams so I figure we could see if BGRH can achieve something

The Poker forum has a soccer team now, there is a cycling club and an athletics club on Boards too

These whilst all worthy are a bit active for BGRH although I do think a BGRH Rugby team would be formidable and a sight to behold

    Any suggestions/ideas?

I have a funny feeling this will be a team of front rows ... but I'm in.

I've played tight head for the last 20 years ... must be time for a change.

Eh ... who would we play against ?

Change will be good for you

Worry about that if anything comes of it

There are bound to be leagues we could join or a Sevens tournament if we don't have enough bodies

Feel free to suggest other things we would excel at such as Beer Drinking, Pork Knuckle eating etc

I do like the idea of a BGRH Rugby team though

I think of it as a throwback to the Pre-Professional era when men with Beer guts roamed the field

Think of it as a team of Peter Clohessey's

I would be more of a Back than a forward, I am too delicate for that :p

Has anybody made a joke about who's going to be a hooker yet?

    *gets coat

I think the Brothers should put their own stamp on this by doing it in their own way : backwards. If the poker forum has a soccer team we can't have a rugby team because that's what they'd expect! We should turn it all around and take up poker instead. The last poker tournament I was in (Good Friday) we sat around drinking all day while lovely wimmens dealt us cards, with a quick break thrown in to enjoy a smashing Chinese meal. I think it's a 'sport' the Brothers can appreciate.

I think a darts team would be more along our lines really, beer and sport! We could call it BGRH Boards team! Geddit?:D I'm not too bad at spear chucking, did a lot when younger!

Popey, we have been through this. We need a BGRH Red Rover team. Then we can take on orestes and his team.

    It's all planned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,957 ✭✭✭trout

Sumo would be a good match for some of the brothers. I like Sumo.

I can't see the actually brethen taking part in team dance competitions.

/reaches into pocket, takes out what appears to be a remote fob and smiles at orestes and activates it.

    Aren't remote taser collars fun?

/drags the prone form of the ex dancer to the wine cellar, where he shouldn't cause any more bother for a while.

Darts may not be such a good idea, but I think a boat race team is certainly possible
then again it's I sure as hell wouldn't mind playing 'touch' rugby with trout.

Be careful trout. If he shows up in a tutu, you'll be laughing too much to do anything.

Don't forget I am a prop ... my powers of concentration are so limited, I will only laugh for about 20 seconds, and then natural order will assert itself.

By natural order I mean orestes probably trampled underfoot, tutu and all.

    Sorry for doubting you there.

And as a second row, I'll give him a good raking on the way past just to make sure.

No, sorry you are going to have to find someone else, currently he's off limits when it comes to anyone else raking and trampling him.

Sure you can always play with Doom and Onkle.

I would have suggested Darts or Bar billiards myself, but boat race seems somehow more appropriate. I'll be a cheerleader.

Happy to take on the role of spectator#2 and occasional wet sponge applier. Also got a forklift truck licence if we ever need to remove any prone Brothers to the sidelines for a Beer&Pork treatment.

Eh Thaed, when somebody comes in here making fun of the brothers, I have to inform you that he will have to back his words up with actions.

    Nobody is off-limits.

Wrong as in I have neither a beer gut (it's just plain ole regular fat :)) or receding hairline, I'm very sober and it's very late so one would assume I should be posting in the noc forum :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 43,045 ✭✭✭✭Nevyn

While both the beer gut and the receeding hair line are hall marks of a true bother the breathren understand that these things do not happen over night and they are something which a young man like yourself must aspire to.

Tbh, I'd say half of them aren't even in yet. I felt old coming home at 1 a.m., but it's my third night in a row, not to mention with the Volvo Ocean race in my backyard a fair bit of daytime drinking has taken place as well!

    Not that I'm complaining ... :D

Hmmm, haven't dropped in here in an age actually, keep meaning to, mea culpa.

But what would they say if they knew the reason I'm still up tonight is because I put a wash on when I came home from work and am waiting for it to finish.

And also most of the drinks I served in the bar tonight were alco pops and cocktails. I fear Mr.Dunne wouldn't allow me in his bar if he knew this
