There's nothing about a support, but then again, there was no support expected at the Marquee last year, and The Chapters were on beforehand. The standard Neil Young set is two hours. On at nine, finished by eleven, I'd say.

2024 Gigs and Events: David Suchet, Depeche Mode, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, The Smile, Pixies, Liam Gallagher John Squire/Jake Bugg, Kacey Musgraves (x2), Olivia Rodrigo, Mitski, Muireann Bradley, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Eric Clapton, Girls Aloud, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Rewind Festival, The Smashing Pumpkins/Weezer, Henry Winkler, P!nk, Pearl Jam/Richard Ashcroft, Taylor Swift/Paramore, Suede/Manic Street Preachers, Muireann Bradley, AC/DC, Deacon Blue/Altered Images, The The, blink-182, Coldplay, Gilbert O'Sullivan, Nick Lowe, David Gilmour, ABBA Voyage, St. Vincent, Public Service Broadcasting, Crash Test Dummies, Cassandra Jenkins.

2025 Gigs and Events: Stuart Murdoch, Lyle Lovett, The Corrs/Imelda May/Natalie Imbruglia, Olivia Rodrigo, Iron Maiden, Dua Lipa, Lana Del Rey, Weezer, Maya Hawke, Billie Eilish (x2), Oasis, Sharon Van Etten, The Human League, Deacon Blue

All I know is there's been support at the other European dates on this tour, so take that for what it's worth.

Think theres an 11 o' clock curfew for acts now, could be wrong though?

;) Indeed!

Can't wait hope it's a long one! Have to give the new album a few spins, I listened to it a few times when it came out but it was nothing special.

If he plays more off Zuma and Tonight's the Night I'll be a happy camper. Lookout Joe and Drive Back to be precise! And Clancy and Birds would be cool too.

I hope he plays "A Day In The Life". Just been listening to it on Youtube and it's a fantastic version!! Either that or "Imagine". I havent seen him in concert since the "Mirrorball" tour, I think? The one where he had Pearl Jam(sans Ed Ved), as his backing band.

thanks

When I was at the Judas Priest gig in February there was no pit, and it was quite easy to get up quite close even though I was a fair bit back in the queue as well.

Ticket says doors at 6:30pm. Here's hoping for Dangerbird and Thrasher.

Just got back, where does a man of 62 years get all that energy?

Getting better each year. Great gig.

I thought he played more songs than that??? What a f**kin fantastic gig, though. And the support act weren't half bad either!!?? He played a few songs that I've never heard of too. I must go and invest in some of his back catalogue! Any suggestions where to start? I already have "Harvest", "Harvest Moon", "After The Goldrush", "Decade", a Greatest Hits collection, and "Unplugged".

Oh, and by the way(just to be pedantic), he's 63!!

You have to get On the Beach, from 1974. There's a few songs off it on Decade (Walk On and For the Turnstiles), but you really need it for the last three songs (On the Beach, Motion Pictures and Ambulance Blues), the original side two of the vinyl.
Sleeps with Angels from 1994 is pretty essential too.

Last night was worth the admission price just for Burned.

Harvest and after the goldrush would probably be my least favourite albums....go for 'On The Beach' , 'Tonight's the night' 'Comes a Time'.......and 'Everybody knows this is nowhere' .....

Great gig....

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 947 ✭✭✭fobster

Can't forget Zuma! And his Live at Canterbury House album is great too, both for the songs and the funny stories and chat! I'd plump for Ragged Glory over Sleeps with Angels though.

On the gig last night, is the reason Neil turns away from the crowd a lot is to get more feedback from the amps?

Great gig. If I have any complaints, it would be his persistence to finish with "A Day in the Life" (He did this last year as well). I would prefer he would finish with one of his own songs. Other than that just a great show.

OK. I was gonna mark my highlights in bold, but I realised almost everything was a highlight for me. It's probably easier to mark what I didn't enjoy as much.

Hey Hey, My My (Into The Black) / Mansion On The Hill / Are You Ready For The Country? / Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere / Pocahontas / Words / Cinnamon Girl / Mother Earth / Don't Let It Bring You Down / Lost In Space / On The Way Home / Burned / Harvest Moon / Down By The River / Get Behind The Wheel / Rockin' In The Free World // A Day In The Life

Only one song from the new album: Get Behind The Wheel. I have to say, I didn't like it as much until I heard it live.

Probably two of his best albums IMO.

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 947 ✭✭✭fobster

Each to their own with regards favourite albums really. But I think it's the mark of greatness that he has the potential to play two if not three completely different setlists and still be great!

Try these albums Yuma, Prarie Wind, Comes A Time, Living With War, Chrome Dreams 2.

Depending on the mood, they all have great tracks.

Regards albums I am just pointing out what I regard his better albums....Harvest and After The Gold Rush are good albums, but the songs are too bland for my tastes....maybe played to death a little, perhaps just too familiar....

I do however find it amazing that a Neil Young fan would not have 'On The Beach' or 'Everybody Knows this is Nowhere'....or just not own every album in the first place...

Fantastic gig, loved every second of it. Great atmosphere in there aswell, and as another poster up above pointed out, pretty much a totally different setlist from last year. :D

Ah yea agree with ya, On the beach is defo a certain mood album though, Ben Keith's slide guitar on 'See the sky about to rain' is just brill, great weeping sound to it.

Imo, Times fades away, On the beach and Tonight's the night are albums that Neil Young did because he just had to get all the **** that had happened in his life out of his system and once he had, he moved on with his life and left that period behind him.

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,419 ✭✭✭Cool Mo D

I'd definitely say that "Everyone Knows This is Nowhere" is by far Neil Youngs best album, so get that if you don't have it.
"Rust Never Sleeps" is another great one.

It seems like his most popular albums are "Harvest" and "After the Gold Rush" which are fairly hippyish and acoustic records, but they lack the grungy edge that he's so good at.

Although, if you have "Decade" you're doing well - a truly great compilation.

What do people think of the new album "Fork in The Road"?

When Worlds Collide
Fuel Line
Just Singing a Song
Johnny Magic
Cough Up the Bucks
Get Behind the Wheel
Off the Road
Hit the Road
Light a Candle
Fork in the Road

My favourite tracks are Get Behind the Wheel, Off The Road and Light A Candle.

My first ever Neil Young gig, (couldnt get ticket last year) and I went in with low expections as I was had met two people who said they saw him 10 years ago or so and that he was poor but I didnt care, just wanted to see him at least once. Ontop of that I had lost my tickets before hand and when they reprinted them in the box office they reprinted standing ones although I told them I was sure I had bookd seated ones but they insisted they were standing. Boy was I glad I was standing, He was amazing especially as I was expecting a somber gig and never heard any reviews from last year.
I forgave Bob Dylan the last 2 times I saw him for being ****e as he is getting old etc but he has no excuse now. Neil gives it socks.
Top songs for me were Pocahontas, Mother Earth (pity more peolple did'nt sing along to it though) and Dont let it bring you down. Does he ever play Man needs a maid anyone?
Also yea the shirt eh?

Great gig anyway, off to ring ticketmaster/the O2 and pretend Im cross at them making a mistake and get refunded the difference.

I much prefer the Unplugged version of this song. I couldn't get into the "plugged in" version. Rest of the gig was brilliant, though. Well worth the money.

I saw that. I'd say he needed his strumming arm to be free of the loose shirt but it might have been to cold to take off the shirt completely? He fairly mangled the poor old guitar at the end as well.

+1

I preferred last night as well, more of a Greatest Hits show, although the new song Get Behind The Wheel stood up well with the rest. Last year he did one song from the Chrome Dreams II album that lasted 27 minutes, too long.

Yeah, seen that. I was wondering what the story was.

Neil's had the painter on stage since the start of the tour early last year. The first leg (which didn't come to Ireland, but included shows in London and Edinburgh) split the set into two parts: he'd play an acoustic set and then have an interval, followed by an electric set with the full band.

He had the guy at the read of the stage painting throughout. Some of the paintings were used as part of the show by the time he played Malahide and the Marquee last summer. They were put on an easel at the front of the stage whenever the relevant song was played. He's done away with that element of it, 'cos nothing was displayed up front last night, but the guy is still painting away at the back.

He was much better last night than either show last summer. It was a much tighter performance, the set list was stronger, and he had Ben Keith doing more lap steel (his speciality) as opposed to playing perfunctory rhythm guitar. I was glad he ditched Spirit Road and No Hidden Path, especially the latter, which I agree with the earlier poster about. Twenty-five minutes of tiresome self-indulgence, both shows last year. No thanks.
