UCD Summer Air League 2009

UCDRC will be running a Summer Air League (SAL) for the summer and autumn of 2009. It will be a seven match hybrid competition between Sunday 7th of June and Sunday 27th of September 2009. This works out as a gap of three weeks between the first five matches and a gap of two weeks between the last three. The full list of dates is shown below.

In order to facilitate as many people as possible, the SAL is to be run as a hybrid postal competition. This will enable those who are unable to attend individual SAL matches to submit postal results. In this hybrid scheme we will require that at least three of the seven matches are shot in the UCD Range over the four month period, while the remainder can be submitted by post. All matches to be shot to ISSF rules.

Results will be based onto aggregate score of all seven matches with prizes given for at least first place in each class, with second and third place prizes awarded depending on numbers in each class.

A fee of €80 for Adults and €60 for students for the total SAL.

    Dates :

    SAL 1
    scheduled for Sunday 7 June 2009 @ 13:30
    Location: UCD Rifle Range

    SAL 2
scheduled for Sunday 28 June 2009
    Location: UCD Rifle Range

    SAL 3
scheduled for Sunday 19 July 2009
    Location: UCD Rifle Range

    SAL 4
scheduled for Sunday 9 August 2009
    Location: UCD Rifle Range

    SAL 5
scheduled for Sunday 30 August 2009
    Location: UCD Rifle Range

    SAL 6
scheduled for Sunday 13 September 2009
    Location: UCD Rifle Range

    SAL 7
scheduled for Sunday 27 September 2009

I'm sure you could arrange a loan of one of UCD's pistols or maybe use one of ours?!?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 204 ✭✭xesse

Be great if I could take you up on that offer. Should only have to borrow one for this week only going on holidays and looking to buy one when away. Do you shoot in Wilkinstown and if so do they allow visitors?

You can enter by emailing UCD RC at ucdrifleclub@gmail.com

Re. getting a loan of a UCD pistol: I'm not sure what way UCD RC's authorisation works. You'd have to contact UCD RC directly to enquire about that rather than discussing it here.

    Postal entry:
The postal cards should be shot and returned to UCD RC (address on the website - www.ucd.ie/rifle) by the Friday before the Sunday of the match in UCD RC - for example, if you want to send in a postal card instead of shooting in UCD on Sunday 28 June, the cards should arrive by Friday 26 June.

If you've any more queries just email UCD RC.

Ah nuts, I thought we could just shoot as many ahead of time as we needed to shoot. :(

Shooting cards ahead of time isn't a problem. You can submit all of your postal cards in advance if you so wish;they just have to be in UCD no later than the Friday before the match for which they're intended.

Just to clarify, the rules for the Summer Air League are here.

For the postal entries, they will need to be submitted by the Friday before the match that they are being entered for. The first match, SAL 1, is the exception to this. Postal entries for SAL 1 need to received by Friday 26th of June (this is the Friday before SAL 2).

If required UCDRC can supply targets, for air rifle these will be target strips with five targets similar to here and for air pistol individual targets (three pellets per target for air pistol).

    Hope that removes any misunderstanding.

If there are any further questions either put them up here or mail UCDRC

Can we send in the postal entries for SAL 1 and the entry fee at the same time?
(Or, more succinctly, when do entries for the league close?)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 132 ✭✭.177

Entries close the Friday before SAL 2 (Friday 26th June) or more accurately the postal cards for SAL 1 need to be received by then.
We will have some flexibility for mitigating circumstances and these will be assessed on a case by case basis.

Needing some extra time to get your scores up before you submit won't count as mitigating circumstances though ;)

Needing time to buy a new set of sights might?
Myself and another of the WTSC people have that problem :(

It's in the first post above but probably not very clear, SAL 1 is on at 13:30 tomorrow (Sunday 7th of June 2009).

Sorry if this has caused any confusion.

Looking forward to seeing many of you there.

The last two matches (SAL 6 & 7) will be the same.

Anyone intending to compete in individual matches should contact UCDRC (ucdrifleclub@gmail.com) as depending on numbers an extra detail may be required.

    Hi,

Anybody got the results for SAL 5 & 6. Just wondering what the standing is going into the final SAL 7 this weekend.

    Cheers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 132 ✭✭.177

We've been a bit hectic with the start of term, Freshers' week and getting everything set up for our new influx of shooters, so tabulating and putting up the results got put a little on the long finger.

    Apologies for that.

Should have them up by tomorrow.

SAL 7 will be shot at UCD Rifle Range on Sunday 27 September 2009. There will be two details at 13:30 and 15:30.

Just a note to thank '.177' & all in UCD for the not unconsiderable effort in running the SAL this year. It has a great benifit to me, keeping me working through the summer & adding to my competition experience. Thanks to all concerned, Joe.

These are the final results for the UCD Rifle Club Summer Air League 2009. Many thanks from UCDRC to all who took part and especially to our winners, Joe Conroy in air pistol and Colm Breaton in air rifle.

Colm managed to work his way through a potentially match destroying equipment hiccup to win SAL 7 and come out on top.

We hope that the Summer Air League has provided a good start to the new season of competitions for all those who took part.

Many thanks have to go to John Lancaster for his help and flawless running of the competition and indeed to everyone else involved. I totally agree with Joe about the benefits of running a competition like this in the "Quiet" season, please keep it up.

Sorry to John for it being so close in the end but good shooting by him throughout, I am sure we will have many more close matches.

I really enjoyed yesterday (once I got the equipment problem sorted, damn valves), and look forward to seeing everyone for the WTSC open in two weeks, 10th and 11th of October.

    Many thanks again,
    Colm Brereton

PS: please note the spelling of my name as it is wrong on the results, we wouldn't want it spelled wrong on the trophy, now would we! YAHOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, but its my first overall win, am a little bit thrilled!

Well done to all who partook in the UCD SAL and congratulations to our winners, Colm and Joe!

A big thanks to John for running the competitions over the summer, and to Carin for stepping in to help run the SALs, too.

The WTSC Open is the completely separate the the Summer Air League and is the first match of the new season. It's both Air Rifle and Air Pistol.

I think the WTSC lads are finalising detail times at the moment so they should be posted up fairly soon I 'd say.

Good luck and I might see you there at the weekend.

    Hi xesse,

The pistol matchs will run alongside the rifle matchs, I have pm'd you details, details can also be found in the Upcoming Competitions/Events (announcements only!) tread!

To the UCD gang and everyone else interested, Geoff is now taking bookings but they are filling up fast and I would advise to get hold of the slots now.

    Thanks again.
