Cycling - non racing groups

    Hello,

I moved here from Toronto last year and interested in getting out on my bike, but I can only find serious racing groups.

Do you know any groups or clubs that are not focused on racing, yet like to get out for rides ranging from 50-100kms.

I know I will be a bit slow at first but can work up to a fair speed and distance in no time.

If there are no such groups, I'm willing to start one, so if you're interested let me know.

I'm in Donnybrook but can meet up anywhere. I don't have a car, but can use my bike as my means of transportation.

I'm excited to get out, now that the weather is looking so good!

    Cheers,

    Trish

That sounds exactly like a 'saturday spin', unfortunately you missed this mornings though. I peeled off after Sally gap, did 67km for the morning. Others went on down to Laragh, Co Wicklow, for coffee and cake, and then some were talking about coming home via roundwood, others mentioned slieve maan and shay elliot.
Come along next time. It's 'no drop', so we all regroup at the top of the climbs.

Occasionally there are midweek spins too during the nice summer long evenings.

    +1 on the Boards spins.

In addition there are several sportives over the summer ranging from 50km to 200km. These are non-competitive rides where everyone rides at their own pace and food stops are generally provided. Swords CC have one tomorrow - flat terrain, 85km or 160km options.

Also depends what you mean by 'non racing', as all we have road bikes.
I lived in Ontario 4 years myself - but I wasn't cycling as I do now then, just to work when it wasn't snowing. I remember how flat it was ... I'd love to return with the road bike ... and just cycle up Yonge street as far as I can :)

That street could host its own ultra marathon cycle all without corners!

Most clubs also have a touring group.... which part of the city do you live in.

There's also a regular series (I use the term series loosely) of Sunday long ride events focused on having fun and just riding. Take the Swords CC ride on Sunday -- 100 miles at a relaxed pace. Wicklow 200 etc etc... Most events are normally posted here since at least one person will do it.

Ah yea. pedal Caro pedal :)

I used to live in London Ontario. and all you can do when you leave the city is go straight in any direction ... sometimes you'll hit a lake, sometimes you hit a cross road ... and a town, with another few hundreds of Tim Horton. :pac:

mmmmmm.....................Real Tim Hortons!! Not like the ones they've palmed off on us. That's what you call "energy dense food!"

The Orwell Wheelers women usually do rides of that kind of length on Saturday mornings, leaving from Dundrum at 10:30, and the Orwell touring group does likewise on Sundays. I don't think either group is particularly intense and I don't doubt you could go along for a ride or two and see if you like their style. PM me if you want contacts for them.
