Where can you buy proper sports clothes?

The other day I went looking for legging type pants for running both knee length and short length - you know the ones that are climacool, but all the sports shops seem to have heavy tracksuit type, casual wear clothes.

I bought some great t-shirts and pants in Australia - all performance wear really cheap. Where can you get proper sportswear? I live in Galway and am looking to go shopping today for shorts for the mini marathon. Can anyone suggest shops?

I'm surprised that you cant find proper leggings

In Dublin I would recommend Arnott's. In Galway, maybe Lifestyle ? or the big department store on the top of Shop Street ?

Decathlon are great, if they ever make it to Ireland.

Where abouts in Ireland are you?

Arnotts, Elverys or Runways in Dublin.

when i decided to take up running (6 weeks ago! :D total novice like never played sports etc so..) i went to a specialist to get my shoes and sports bra but i got my specialist nike running top (support, wicks away sweat), three quarter length running pants and zip up hooded nike running jacket for 45pounds sterling in tkmaxx in london(about 60€, RRP was like 125 so bargain!) head to tkmaxx and if they dont have what you are looking for then try somewhere else,

Lidl are doing running gear next Thursday. I swear by their jackets and their tops. Not so keen on their running tights or socks but some people swear by the socks.

Great prices. Get there early though, every runner in the country is there at 9 in the morning as the prices are so good.

Excellent, i'll pick up a few pairs of shorts.... my current ones are aldi/lidl can't remember which its that long since i bought them, but they've lasted 2 marathons and thousands of miles and still aren't too bad...

+1 on the Aldi if you get them when they doing their running gear. If not look to the net for cheap gear. If you are afraid of size problems however Buckleys in Cork, Mick Dowlings in Terenure are two places. Was never a big fan of Runways tbh

Is anyone familiar with "Sportsworld"? Is it any good. They have a place in Carrickmines.

I'm generally disappointed with most sports shops in Ireland. Champion Sports = ****. Lifestyle = slightly better. They all seem to be mostly jerseys, less geared towards actual equipment or specialist clothing

sportsworld is cheaper std leasure wear mostly, rather than running clothing. However at the same park in carrickmines there is a lifestyle with a running section, a TK Maxx that always has a good variety of running wear and a 53 degrees north than stocks helly hansen, north face and nike acg running clothing as well as nike, asics, mizuno and north face running shoes.

I use wiggle for everything but my running bottoms which I buy from champion, I love my 3/4 length nike dri fits. :D Got about 8 tops from wiggle a few weeks ago for just over 100 euro.

I see Lidl also have a HRM next week, I got one there about two years ago and it was pretty good, basic but good and it was compatible with the machines in my gym(life fitness equipment) I really must get a new battery for my old HRM as the garmin one isn't compatible with gym stuff.

I never walk past TX Max without having a rummage.
If you are ever near the border go as far as the outlet last time I was there in the Nike shop I got, a pair of spikes, 2 pairs of leggings, 2 long sleeved tops, 2 hats, 2 pairs of gloves and a nike watch for less than £100. If you are going up register on the site and you can print off additional vouchers.
There's also a shop there called Mountain Warehouse where I picked up lightweight wind tops for a tenner.

Got some Adidas Supernova shorts in Champion Sports outlet store in Blanchardstown Westend (near Halfords/Borders) 3 for 2 so worked out at €10 each. They don't have a great selection so you need to be lucky with the product / size.
I also like Lidl/Aldi socks and tops, though a pair of shorts I got in one or other shop has an insert that chafes (ouch!) hence the Supernovas.

Buckley's in Cork do a very comprehensive on-line shopping service (V useful if you're not in Cork).

However The Edge sports shop on North Main St. Cork is my personal favourite shop for all things running.

Would appreciate to know if they are a waste of money or worth a purchase.
