I think if he claimed liability then its done through his insurance, so you get onto them.

Get onto your insurance company and make sure you take down all his insurance details...

Went through it recently, though co-incidentally we were both with the same company.

You ring his insurance company and get a claim number from them.

They will probably send an assessor to value the damage to the car.

(If you're car is a likely to be a write-off make sure you remove any extras you've fitted before its assessed (I lost a cd/radio).

Make sure that the claim dosen't go onto your policy, but of course you are legally obliged to inform your own company too

    What is "claiming liability"?

    What is "claiming liability"?

If someone claims liability, they are saying its there fault basically. Theyre saying it was because of them the accident occured and the claims will therefore go through their insurance

Even though they admit fault it might not hold up later, they could have been shocked or bullied into admitting error.

That would be admitting liability no?

well there was no question of who was at fault i was parked, car turned off handbrake on, left in gear, and a bus parked behind me jerked forward into me when it was going to pull off. I called my insurance company and they took all the details. his company seems to not be open out of office hours (a company i havent heard of) so i will have wait til tuesday to call them i guess.

Sounds about right. I hope you got his reg, and wrote down the insurance disc details.

Get the car looked at and an estimate prepared. Give that to the bus driver...

ya i got all his details. I dont think the actual driver ever wants to hear from me again. He was all about call the insurance, here is my bosses number. i have never seen a bus drive away so slowly afterwards, I think he might have scared himself quite a bit

Your best option if there's a chance of a dispute is to ring your insurance company and follow their advice IMO.

If there's no dispute then your insurance company will probably refer you to deal with the other company direct anyway, but at least they'll know what's going on and no one then will be claiming against you in a couple of weeks.
