I know it was two days ago but,

Did Deignan touch his front brake to cause his crash.? (Its all over youtube do a search for it.)

If he did is he an arsehole or what?

Did that cost Sastre stage and/or podium at least.?

Was Kelly being nice by blaming road for crash?

I say yes to all four.
My eleven year old daughter knows not to brake in a bend.
    Any opinions.?

P>S I like and rate Deignan but I think he messed up big style.

How could it have cost Sastre the podium? He had plenty of other team mates to help him. There are many other reasons why he lost time that day, riding too far back for one.

Jesus give the guy a break, accidents happen. Hes riding really well.

I'd have to look at the video again, but I didn't notice him braking the first time. To me it had all the appearance that there was something on the road that caused him to lose traction.

No way it cost Sastre the stage though. He had loads of team mates up there who were pushing the pace.

+1 on all that. Something on the road.

Are you getting all this from these US commentators by any chance :)

Love the video title, "Cyclist kisses asphalt in Giro." Amazing that he didn't break his collarbone like Lance, what's up with that?

Reported something on the road. Sastre seems to think an awful lot of him and I doubt if he felt he was to blame for him losing out he would have even mentioned how unlucky PD has been with his crashes n the post stage interviews.
Nat champioships look like they will be a very interesting days cycling in Dunboyne

Lol. Where did they find those lads?

You also notice that everyone else began moving out from the corner once Deignan went down, which indicates his team mates also thought there was something on the road.

Difficult to tell very much from the footage.

Interesting how the wheel appears to steer against the skid.

His head/helmet took a nasty knock.

Unfortunately since I’m boycotting NTL-scum I haven’t been able to watch any of this on TV. I’ll back home in the folks place on Sunday to see the Rome time-trial, should look amazing. I actually have relations in Rome and was considering going over for this, however I thought that it would just my luck to pay for a air ticket etc. only for the whole thing to be spoilt by a drugs scandal (there’s still time). I still haven’t forgotten the tour in 1998.
There’s no way in hell this can be said to have cost Sastre the Giro. Deignan has been unlucky with crashes, but wasn’t he in a breakaway yesterday? I assume he isn’t suffering any major ill effects.
I also seriously doubt Deignan caused the crash with a stupid error, he’s a professional with several years experience. Unless they are particularly dumb or under serious pressure these guys never make elementary bike handling errors.

I think the tendency to 'untighten' your line when someone goes down in front of you is pretty natural. I see it happening quite a lot. In fact, I do it myself.

Having said that, yes, there may have been something on the road. It could have been a greasy/oily spot?

Have to shake my head at the OP's comment about PD pulling his front brake, being an arsehole, etc. Either that post is a trolling attempt or just the words of someone totally clueless.

    Jaysus.

I just went to buy a bigger fishing rod and all hell has broken loose while I'm away!!.:D
    Reported something on the road.

Who reported something on the road and to whom? I am not doubting this but would like a reference.
Have to shake my head at the OP's comment about PD pulling his front brake, being an arsehole, etc.

From all the evidence I have seen- him touching the brake is at least as probable as the mysterious spot on the road. The first time I saw it I thought he had braked. Then Kelly swayed me towards the oil spot theory. I decided to look again when the Cervelo team report on the stage did not mention anything on the road. They said Deignan was going too fast.(Cervelo Team Website)
Surely they spoke to him in the intervening hours and surely he would have mentioned this oil spot or whatever..Fair point??

Phillip Deignan if you are reading this I meant arsehole in the loving fatherly sense.;)
No way it cost Sastre the stage though. He had loads of team mates up there who were pushing the pace.

As I saw it Cervelo went like bastards well before the start of the climb to gain the psychological advantage and lead Sastre in for an early go at the climb. Deignans crash, however it was caused (and Cervelo seem to blame Deignan) upset their rythm and must have affected them mentally. To argue that it didn't affect Sastres performance on the climb seems a bit obtuse.

Deignan is doing great otherwise. It broke my heart to see him go on his arse in his moment in the sun.I rate him.He could have won that stage the other day when he pulled on the second last climb to set Gerrans up. Sacred cow he ain't though.
