Havent a clue about arts but you will struggle to get into places without an id.

Maths can be tough but it is manageable. English is ok. My housemate in first year did it and she seemed to get by ok. (Apart from doing all her assignments the night before they were due).
I only know one person who did Irish. He found it alright for the most part although you'd need a pretty high standard. It's said a minimum of a HC3 but honestly, from the description I heard, you'd need to be a little better than that.

Most importantly, you'd need to really like these subjects. And if you're looking for a good "first year only then I'm dropping it subject", most people seem to favour using "Introduction to Sociological and Political Studies" (Soc & Pol).

Some of the stuff on the reading list is actually very good tbh.

As the above poster said, yes they are fairly strict with id. You could borrow one from a friend that looks like you or just skip the pubs/clubs and spend all your time at house parties in Corrib Village {I don't particularly advise that but I know a few people who used those methods for club substitutes}.

All clubs are very strict anyway, you might manage in some pubs if you look old enough or can get a friend to go up for ya...
    I'm just finished first year...
English is ok, once ya do your assignments then you shouldn't have much trouble. They're just a little obsessed with plagiarism and it's a little scary but don't mind them, I based a whole essay on info from Wikipedia and they didn't cop on at all and I got a B+ :D DO NOT COPY AND PASTE ANYTHING!!! That's where they catch people out..Rewording things works A LOT better
Some people find the essays hard and the short questions in the exams are hard enough to predict but it went fine for me and I didn't really attend a lot of lectures...
I think both Maths and Irish are pretty hard but not sure as I didn't do them...Suppose it depends on your level though...
Languages are meant to be insanely hard...Just in case you were considering that.
Most people do Soc&Pol as a "dropping" subject but I hear a lot of complaints about it from my friends who are doing it so I'm not sure that it's really what it's made out to be??? I took Archaeology as my "drop" subject and love it but the lecturers can be boring..I think it has to be something you've always been interested in...
Anyway, sorry if that was waayy too long..Kinda got carried away:rolleyes:
Hope I was a little bit of help at least:o

last year i went out during rag week with friends who go to college there and i brought my passport with me, being 2 days off my 18th birthday-was so confident I wasnt going to be asked for ID but of course knowing my luck i had to get asked for ID!! and even though i was only 2 days out, not a hope was i allowed go in.
So yea, galway=fairly strict, even when your less than 48 hours from being legal..!

Yeah they are very strict with ID, my advice would be that if your not 18, then to live in a student complex as at least there will be plenty of house parties around.

Irish is a very tough subject and wouldnt recommend it. Use Soc and Pol as ur filler subject though, easy.

Once you turn 18 though the nightlife is great in Galway, just make sure you explore different places. Me and my mated made the mistake of staying in the one spot all the time, didnt see enough pubs!

Dont listen to em about the id.

I was 17 for a full year in first year. I think i bought my fake id from fantasycard .com or something. I bought a "northern ireland travel passport" which is a little hologram card, with your picture in it. I used to put on northern accents, and was only questioned about twice when getting in. Say its for trains and stuff.

    Easy :D

Also, do Soc and Pol as part of your 4, and you can do a diploma in Irish part time with your degree, so you can do 2 other subjects as well as irish.

Not really, you weren't 18 till the end of September and places let you in. I was up in Galway when I was 16 and 17.

I was 17 for the duration, although a dodgy fake ID does the job most places. CPs and The Cellar=Fort Knox though. And avoid Corrib like the plague.
