Lads and lassies. I'm looking at getting this.
    https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=142&pID=349

Is this a good buy? I'm getting a bit disheartened running, maybe coz I'm on my own. I kinda want to get this to see how far I've gone and what's left ahead of me. I'd keep going if I was running with someone, and maybe if I knew there was only 2km ahead of me, like on Wednesday night.

do a search here for "forerunner"

I have the 305 and, apart from my runners, it is the best bit of kit I have - I couldn't do without it.

I would advise you to buy it online as it's gone really cheap now.

Get it, you won't regret it!

Try www.elara.ie as well. They are fairly competitive, and you'd be giving the VAT to Brian instead of Gordon.

Yes they are very good but I don't think they make runs easier to finish , maybe the virtual training partner does but I don't use that.

Brian will get the VAT from any EU based online store. Once they have over a couple of grands worth of sales into Ireland each year they have to be locally registered.

Interesting. What about amazon.co.uk? Isn't there something funny there, that they only deliver to UK addresses?

Amazon.co.uk will deliver to Ireland, though it's more expensive than to the UK. Some Amazon items are also free to post to UK.
My girfriend lives in Scotland so I post stuff there and collect it when I'm over :0)

Amazon.co.uk will deliver everything except TV's to Ireland now they have found some way of getting round the WEEE requirements. You won't get the free postage options though and the price will always be ~6% more due to the difference in the VAT rates, but that difference does not get applied until the final stages of the checkout.

I found handtec.co.uk to be good but delivery is more expensive than amazon, think 405 hrm has come down about 20 snots on amazon though recently, black one now cheaper than green one

just checked the 405 without hrm is €212 and the 305 is €195, you can collect it from their warehouse in park west to save on delivery (if your in dublin of course)

I have a 405 for the past 18 months. I wouldn't lose much sleep if I went back to a 'regular' sports watch. Having said that I do use the pace, lap, heartrate and elapsed time, mainly in the one window. I rarely use the alarms - found them more of an annoyance. I do use the PC log to review training progress.

Overall I find it a useful, but dear toy. If you've got nothing better to do with a few bob, then buy one, but don't get hung on the concept. It won't make you run faster, but it might help with your training.

As other posters said, google it. 18 months ago I got my 405 for €167 +VAT. Local shop was selling for €450.

If I was buying again I'd go for the 305 over the 405.
I find the ant agent fiddly and annoying as i use several pcs, a direct usb connection would be better for me.
The satellite gps is very hit and miss. Sometimes it seems to get the signal in seconds , others (most of the time) I'm standing around like a muppet looking at the watch for about 3 minures or more waiting for it to lock in. That's fine when its warm, but in the winter when its cold and breezy that gets annoying very quick.
Also the touch ring is an utter pain in the hole to use, its quite simply crap, give me a button any day over that stupid thing.

Put the watch on the window sill and turn it on, go get your runners on and by the time you come back your ready to go, works for me. No problems with the ant agent but the bezel can be a right pain in the rain. I love it.

Bezel takes some getting used to but I don't need to change it during the run, I have my three data fields set up (default), and have the vp screen rotating with this (little watch man beat me last time grrrr), lock the bezel and off I go, also I do my stretching outside when finding satellites

Good tip there Woddle, definitely what I'll do in future.

Much cheaper on amazon and handtec

including delivery it works out at about €220 with handtec and EXCLUDING delivery its about €224 with amazon, so i think elara is the cheapest
