Aer Lingus - 50% off sale - What happened to only paying taxes and charges?

My friends and I are currently planning a trip to Amsterdam for a weekend and the first thing we did was go onto the Aer Lingus website to check flights and there was a special offer saying that from the 3rd of June to September there's only going to be a charge on taxes and charges and not the actual flight cost itself.

Bargain we thought and we looked at accommodation. Baring in my mind that we haven't actually booked anything yet until people get money to me etc.

Heard on the radio this morning that an offer was ending today so I assumed that it was the taxes and charges one and got onto the website immediately and it was a 50% off on flights deal they were offering so I had a look and it is working out more expensive than the price I had originally estimated.

Does anybody know if that deal regarding the taxes and charges is over or what? I tried e-mailing them but I got no reply from them. This was a week and a half ago. At wits end here wondering if I should book these "cheap" flights now or do I wait until midnight and assess our options?

If anybody has any information it is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the scam that is an 'Aer Lingus Sale'.

There's a thread on about this over in Bargain Alerts somewhere, general consensus seems to be their 'sales' are fake.

Just checked the Aer Lingus website again and at the side on the home page there's a special offer saying Amsterdam from 29.99.

I have a look at flights and they're now costing 148.00.

Their terms and conditions aren't even that clear.:mad::mad:

Ryanair don't operate to Amsterdam do they?

Ryanair fly to Eindhoven & the flights are normally cheap.
You can get the bus outside the airport which will take you to Eindhoven station & just hop a train to Central Station in Amsterdam.
Train takes about 40-50 mins but sure you can have a beer on the train there. Aer Lingus are a rip off!

    Enjoy your hols

    These offers are first-come-first-served.
When they advertise "taxes and charges" only, they set aside a number of seats on the plane at this price. All seats are not this price. As the flight begins to fill up, the prices increase in line with demand.

This is standard practice across all airlines all over the world, Ryanair do exactly the same thing.

If you're planning a trip and you see a cheap flight, you book the flight immediately, you don't wait two weeks (or even two days) to come back to it.

I fly from Amsterdam to Dublin and back every weekend and I can tell you that booking the flights in the sale were NO DIFFERENT to booking any other time. I'll book ahead about 2 months and usually end up paying about €140 for the round trip.

Oh Ryanair, start fling to Eindhoven at better times of the day....

That's a bit harsh. Their sale offers apply to some seats on some routes on some flights. They are the seats that might otherwise be left empty. So you are unlikely to get them for weekend trips to cities where people like to go for weekends.

Let's be realistic: Aer Lingus are trying to make money. The won't do it by selling tickets for €5 that they could find takers for at €100. If you can be flexible about your travel dates and times, you can get the bargain deals. [I usually manage.]

Cheers for the tip on flying to Eindhoven. Works out a lot cheaper. Thanks.

I flew into Eindhoven a couple of years ago saved about 40 euro on the flights, problem was the bus to amsterdam was 30 euro return and i think the train is similiar in price, it took us over an hour going to the dam and nearly two comin back. Bit off a waste would have been better off booking with aer lingus.
